While on vacation we wanted a great steakhouse and were told Montana Grill was it....boy was that statement furthest thing from the truth. I will start out by saying our server Cameron was amazing. He has been with the restaurant for about 8 months and really loves his job. Cameron was very attentive, courteous, and handled a difficult situation very professionally. The Montana Grill has been in business for about 25 years. The building is absolutely gorgeous and the inside atmosphere is equally homey. Our waiter went into a little bit about how recently the building had just had some wind damage but it has already been fixed. The Fire Bread is their take on cornbreadand is their signature dish. Complimentary cornbread with jalapeño peppers and a large lump of melting butter. That was delicious! Our Appetizer: fried green tomatoes Hearty portion great dipping sauce very flavorful. West Texas BBQ chicken & 1 side garlic mashed potatoes Smokey slightly spicy, tangy, sweet bbq tender chicken bacon crisp perfectly topped w/ melted cheese. Garlic mashed potatoes. My husband enjoyed this a lot. I originally ordered the Big Horn Prime Rib ( ordered it cooked medium and grilled for markings for my photo.... but it was very tough and hard to slice through. It cut like a cheap piece of meat you could barely saw through it. I didn't even take one bit after seeing how tough my ( prime rib) was. Plus the asparagus were not even to room temperature some were grilled and others were cold and rock hard. Very disappointing. So I was given the option to have them remake the prime rib and I said I would just like a Filet. Knowing that any steakhouse can cook a Filet just Do NOT Butterfly it! So I got the Jackson Hole Filet / I ordered it medium and it came out to me just Seared. It was literally Raw inside. It was served severely undercooked! I was just thoughouly miffed by now that a " steakhouse" could not cook a decent steak that I just opted for some key lime pie w/ coffee which was good. Our son ordered the Chicken Pot Pie, extremely juicy and super hot. Flakey crust creamy inside. Burning hot burnt tongue on it as it was still piping hot 45 minutes after it was served to our table. We should have went down the street to the Texas Roadhouse at least I would have eaten steak that night. Very disappointed and I do not recommend this place! So much for our last hoorah before leaving Bowling Green Kentucky.

I gave Montana Grill 2 stars due to their high prices, which I felt were not justified by the dishes they offered, including some overpriced appetizers. My husband and I enjoy trying new restaurants and traveling, but we found this place to be overpriced compared to similar rustic-style eateries in the Midwest, South Texas, and elsewhere, with food quality and taste comparable to Texas Roadhouse or Longhorns, which offer better value in our opinion. We've dined at nicer restaurants than Montana Grill here at home in KY and abroad and paid less. Having lived in South Texas, I've also had the pleasure of eating at top-notch steakhouses that serve exceptional steaks, prime rib, and briskets at a fraction of the cost. Montana Grill falls short, especially when it comes to pricing. The appetizers are overpriced, with the fried green tomatoes being a prime example - a small serving of mediocre quality for $14.50, which is double its worth. Having had better fried green tomatoes at a log-style restaurant in East Tennessee for less, I was underwhelmed by Montana Grill's offering. I would gladly pay higher prices but I expect the food to match what I pay. The chicken dish I ordered, which only came with mashed potatoes, seemed overpriced at $25, and I believed its value was no more than $15. A meal of this kind should typically include two sides or a side and a salad. Adding a side salad would have required an additional $8, bringing the total to $33, not including a drink. Furthermore, I felt that my husband's sirloin steak with a baked potato was too expensive at $27, considering the cut of meat. I have paid this for prime rib. Similarly, my mother's boneless grilled chicken breast with vegetables but no side dish was $24, which I believed was worth no more than $13.99. Montana Grill's food is delicious, particularly the small cute cast iron cornbread, but considering the price and portion size, it's better value to dine at Texas Roadhouse, where you can get more food of great quality for the same price most likely cheaper. Our party of three was charged $130 for three teas, one appetizer, one steak dinner, and two chicken dinners, with an extra side of red cabbage, which we felt was overpriced. Anywhere else this same food and with drinks would have cost around $68.00 for 3 people. God Bless N and P Thomason.

I just finished eating at the Montana Grille and I have to say I am disappointed to the point where I will not return here. The waitress was very nice and quick to take care of me. I ordered the French onion soup as an appetizer and after a few minutes for my main meal I ordered the prime rib. The french onion soup came out pretty quickly and was quite good but then, within a few seconds, of them putting down my appetizer they brought my main meal and sat it down. I said to them my main meal already? My waitress saw that and came over and asked if I wanted to take that back and bring it once I finished my appetizer I said yes and proceeded to eat my appetizer. Within a minute of me beginning to eat my appetizer again they brought my main dish out again so I told him to just go ahead and set it down this time. I didn't feel like playing this game over and over. When I eventually got to eating my main dish it was cold. My waitress came back and asked how it was and I said it was cold but it's okay I would rather just go ahead and eat it now. The prime rib itself was average but was a bit tough considering it was prime rib. While I was eating I started looking over at the serving area where the food prepares place the plates on a counter and the waitresses come pick it up to be served. There was one food preparer, who appeared to be Hispanic, would continuously grab the order receipts that were clipped to a line above the food and toss them into the plate when the plate was ready. He literally put the receipt that the waitress and he had been handling with their bare hands and threw it on top of the food. He did this every time and one time one of the waitresses pulled the receipt back out, I assume because the order wasn't correct, and placed it back up on the line with the other receipts. You could plainly see the receipt was soaked in whatever food it was placed in. To me this is disgusting that a piece of paper that's been handled by multiple people gets tossed into the food you're about to serve. It gets worse. This same food preparer would continuously put the plate up to be served with his hands and fingers inside the plate touching the food. On multiple occasions he would grab a handful of vegetables and toss them in the plate with his hands. These are the same hands that he's touching everything else with, including the receipts. I am not sure how this is allowed considering that this serving counter is in the middle of the restaurant out in the open where everyone can see, to include managers. If this is the kind of unsanitary practice that goes on out in the open I do not want to know what happens in the kitchen behind the doors. I will never...

We came in from out of town for an event last night and we chose Montana Grille based off my own personal experience from living in BG 10 years ago. Need I say I regret the decision. I made a reservation ahead of time by phone for a party of 12. We scheduled the table for 5pm with the event being 10 minutes away at 7pm we really thought we had plenty of time. My wife also called ahead from the road to confirm our reservation. We all arrived at the restaurant 5-10 minutes early only to find that they had prepared a table for 10. When we asked for additional seats we got blank stares and confused attitudes. One server told us it was not going to be possible to seat us all together and that 2 of our party would need to take a separate table. There was clearly another table that could be pulled up to accommodate our request but the staff was not willing to make it happen. So we took upon ourselves to pull an extra table together. At 10 after 5 we still had not been greeted by anyone and I had to track down the manager to find out who our server was.....The manager seemed unaware that a party of 12 was in his dining room.(He also never once followed up with us). It was 530 pm before the first drink was brought to the table. I want to say that our server, Charlotte was pleasant and apologetic though clearly overwhelmed.....In my opinion she was setup for failure.....The food was extremely slow in coming to the table....1-2 plates at a time....although some of the plates were well put together and the food delicious this was not consistent across the board. It was 645 pm before we all left and some did not get their food (including myself) until 635pm....My steak was overcooked , tough, and cold. My wife and another lady of our group had to leave to go save seats at the event for us all....my wife never got her food and it was boxed for her consumption at some later time....(it is in our refrigerator this morning). Charlotte was near tears when we left and I assure you she was very well taken care of by our group.....I blame her in no way....As mentioned above not one time did the manager get involved. Because the group of people I was with were all amazing folks we had a great time at our event...though most of us were late by 5 minutes....and we made the best out of the situation.....However, I will never recommend Montana Grille again. Sincerely...
