Oh my goodness—I can’t say enough GREAT things about this place! First, let me start by saying that we made a reservation and were promptly sat the second we entered the building! I know that sounds like standard operating procedure, but that’s not the kind of service we typically get when we go out to eat in Nashville.
Second, I want to send a HUGE SHOUTOUT to our server SYDNEY P! Sydney, we love you! You made our visit, seriously! You were so kind, attentive and knowledgeable.
Ok, I guess we should talk about the food! Oh, but first… the DRINKS!!! I had an old fashioned and my husband had a new fashioned. They were both divine (mine was better, though, ha!). I haven’t had a proper old fashioned since before the pandemic, so this was a big deal for me! We also ordered the wontons as an appetizer and they were perfect! Not too filling—which is good because we’re ordering steak—and super delicious!
OK—the steak! The food was out of this world. This is the first time since we left Texas in 2017 that a restaurant has cooked my steak the way I ordered it! Hard to believe, huh? And we’ve tried STK and Bourbon Steak in Nashville… STK was better, but it wasn’t perfect (and for the $$$, it should be perfect). Bourbon Steak was a big NO. I ordered the ribeye and it melted in my mouth! It was so juicy, flavorful and tender! I ordered the black garlic sauce (additional $3), but didn’t wind up using it! The steak’s own juices were all the sauce I needed. Husband ordered the filet with scallops and he was in heaven. At the end of the day, though, he said my steak was better.
The SIDES were also to die for! We had whipped potatoes and Brussel sprouts—both so delicious! If you’re going for a steak, I would just get the regular whipped potatoes and not the loaded ones—just my opinion. For dessert, we had the cheesecake—which was ridiculous! Definitely a sharable item! The orange sauce was insane!
I highly recommend this spot and can’t wait to visit again soon! Thanks, again, to our lovely server SYDNEY P!!...
Read moreWe were very excited to celebrate our 10 year anniversary at Hickory and Oak. We made our reservation over a week in advance. Upon arriving first impression was great! The building and atmosphere met expectations. We arrived on time for our 7:00 pm reservation and was told the party before us at our table was still there. They were going to see how much longer it would be. At 7:25 we went back to the hostess and asked about our reservation. We were again told the party before us was still at “our table.” There were multiple tables available throughout the restaurant. At this point we pointed out that maybe we should be given another table as there were multiple available. We were seated with in a few minutes. We ordered drinks and were told that the bar was missing something needed for one drink and suggested a similar one in place of it. They failed to mention the one suggested was $8 higher. It wasn’t the amount just the principal. Meal time. First thing I noticed was my salad was absolutely FULL of over cooked bacon. I mean, I like bacon but I ordered a salad. Not a BLT. Let’s just say no salt was needed. My husband ordered the oyster appetizer. When they arrived to the table it was honestly embarrassing. The oyster itself was about the size of a nickel. The smallest oyster I have ever seen! Our entree arrived next. We immediately noticed the Brussell sprouts were extremely over cooked. Burnt. Again, the bacon. A massive amount of bacon was in them as well. I opted to add a crab cake to my meal. Let’s just say it was left on the plate at the end of our meal. Out steak was cooked perfectly put failed to meet expectations as far as tenderness. The mashed potatoes however were amazing! Our waitress was fantastic. She was very polite, attentive and answered all our questions pertaining to the menu. In the end I can conclude that it was definitely a let down. For the amount of money spent I was very disappointed. We will not revisit nor will we recommend it to...
Read moreAbsolutely a terrible Over Priced experience. To start off, when we asked what was recommended for first timers, we were told we are known for our steaks and another waiter recommended the pork chops. At this time we figured when in Rome do as the Romans. So we ordered the best steak on the menu. Australian Wagyu at a temperature of medium rare, which was chef recommended. And the pork chops. Steak ABSOLUTELY TERRIBLE.. It was served charred and over cooked. We ate three bites between the two of us and agreed that was it. The waitress saw we were not eating the steak and asked if it was good. We replied, No it is burnt and over cooked. She stated, yes we do char our steaks. But the problem was not with it being charred. The problem was that it was burnt not charred and because of this the steak was over cooked. She agreed. Then stated that they had been having problems with their kitchen that night. Now I could go on and on with this story, but the short and sweet is, we were not asked if we would like something else or even if we would like to talk to a manager or at the least let me see what we can do about this $85 steak that you have obviously not eaten or enjoyed. Two stars come from the Pork Chops and the oysters we did eat. Both of these items were good, but nothing as they would say write home about. Unfortunately the lack of concern to make sure our meal was at least good, shooting for Great, was not there. We will not be returning patrons. Maybe we came on a bad day according to others reviews that were far more excelled than our experience, but $180 for a meal not eaten. Shame on you. Next time shame on me. And no I didn’t ask to speak with a manager, I paid and left, it should have been offered.
I should have stuck with Anna’s...
