It was my wife & I first time dining at “The Bristol Restaurant” here in Bowling Green, Ky. We were out for the evening to try a new place, and possibly a new variety of cuisine we have never had before. We arrived at the restaurant at 6pm on a Saturday evening an extremely busy time for the restaurant. So when we entered it was apparent that the hostess was expecting a reservation from us and we had none. However we were very lucky and she went ahead and seated us very promptly regardless of not having a reservation. She proceeded to place us in a good location with a good atmosphere, and a very nice table in the main dining room. From here I observed most of the tables were taken with happy casual dressed customers enjoying their drinks and fine meals. Now once seated we were assisted by Wayne our waiter for the evening. He was very polite, extremely cordial, and a fine young gentleman with great skills of an experienced waiter. He described whatever entries we required about effortlessly in great vivid detail. He also had all the chef’s specials and unlisted entries memorized to great perfection. Well the waiter then gave us a little time to decide and he said he would return shortly. Upon his return we made our uncertain selections. Well my wife chose to try the Voodoo Pasta dish, and I decided on the Short Rib Risotto. Now these are meals we have never tried, or experienced before. So we were not sure what to expect, or whether or not it will please our taste buds. Our entrees arrived hot and very pleasing to the eyes. The meal presentation was quite good. They both looked very appetizing in their display and preparation. Well we both ate pretty much all of our meals. Our final consistence was that we agreed they were ok to good, but we probably wouldn’t order either of them again. I’ve never had a beef short rib meal before. It just looks and tastes like an expensive pot roast meal on broth flavored rice to me. It was okay, but nothing to write home about. The wife’s Voodoo pasta was about the same to her. She said she wished she got the salmon entrée instead . So now with that being said the entree’s might be delicious to other customers who have a different taste or style of food.

Last night, my beloved and I took a road trip to Bowling Green, KY to try the fare at The Bistro. What a treat! The restaurant is downtown in a historical building (circa 1893). The vibe was warm, welcoming and festive, with the food comparable to meals we've enjoyed in five-star restaurants. Annie, our server, was lovely and very engaging; her service was spot on. The artichoke fritters were perfection; fried with a light, tasty coating and served with homemade remoulade sauce that absolutely made the fritters sing! The Shrimp & Grits were a beautiful marriage of brussels sprouts, shallots, bacon, pimento cheese grits and smoked jalapeno butter. The preparation of this dish was the best I've ever had and I've had Emeril's Shrimp & Grits in his New Orleans outlet. Emeril should be taking lessons from The Bistro's chef! My beloved tried one of their nightly specials which was a bed of cappellini with tenderloin beef tips, charred and perfectly cooked medium, homemade chorizo, and a freshly prepared silky aioli topped with fried kale. It was a spectacular. I would walk the fifty one miles I drove to visit this restaurant again! Seriously.

What a gem! We had a 5:30 reservation on a Saturday night and were immediately seated by the hostess and soon served by Greg, who was so pleasant and knowledgeable. All the specials sounded amazing; however, I had my heart pre-set on the shrimp and grits. It was super-rich and stayed with me for a while after the meal, but it was really very delicious. The crostini appetizer with pesto was so good, I could have eaten all four pieces, but limited myself to one. The pumpkin swirl cheesecake was an indulgence (and split between me and my husband) but totally worth every calorie. My two favorite things, however, were the ol’ fashioned (the best I’ve ever had and I’ve had plenty) and the harvest salad. In the end, I sort of wished I’d just ordered the bigger version of the salad for just the $2 more and made that my meal; it was superb! I did not know about this jewel until I saw a Groupon for it and bought it. I always feel awkward presenting a Groupon, but Greg was totally cool with it. If you see a Groupon, get it! Even if you don’t, go here! (Oh and if you get a Groupon, make sure you tip on the full amount of the bill.)

Saturday our food took 50 minutes to be served. When food was served, it was for another table. The food was pulled back from our table and served to a table that arrived and ordered after us. Asked to speak with owner and was told two stories: (1) too busy to talk to you and (2) he has left the building. A lady comes to table to speak on owner behalf and agrees it was a bad night with lots of bad service. Then an angry cook, claiming to be the owner, comes around the corner from the bar yelling at our table telling us we are wrong and the service is great. His most experienced waitress, Heidi, of 8 years is at our table -- who never asked if she can get us another drink, let alone we had to ask her to remove stuff from our table. The owner proceeds to explain to us that we don't know how a restaurant works and that our experience is good service, instead of admitting that we could have chose any place to eat in BG and your staff had a breakdown in communication. Since we disagreed with his assessment he proceeds to tell us to leave instead of trying to make anything right. We arrived at 7:50pm, ordered food at 8:15pm, got served the wrong food at 9:05pm, then the correct food at 9:10pm. I don't believe this was the owner - if it is, he has absolutely no manners and is a horrible representation to the food industry of that area. This was a horrible experience for myself, my friends, my family and all the people who were in the building listening to the owner yell at customers for saying his service was poor. I would never recommend to go to this restaurant or his other sports grill - the customer is wrong and does not matter and this is not someone who should receive your time or...

We had an disappointing customer set service experience. The food was incredible however our check was not calculated correctly. When we brought it to the servers attention she tried to explain tge mistake away. When we pointed out what she was stating did nit match the groupon guidelines she sent what we assume was management to our table we explained that we were bring charged for non alcholic drinks that the groupon was ro cover and she tried to say we were not being charged and started adding up out bill out loud to us saying that $18 +$18 =32 plus $4 for two soft drinks totaled $36. We tried to explain that her math was in incorrect and she did not agree that it was. But that we still had enough left on our $50 groupon to have two desserts to go. We asked for the two deserts and she brought out a new ticket with desserts added and stillthe over charge for the drinks. ( not to mention we were not given an option of how much our gratuity was even though it was only a party of 2, we were automatically charged an 18% gratuity ). We pointed out that the charges were still not correct abd got no where so we gave up and paid our bill with cash. We got our change and were getting ready to leave the table and the manager came to the table with a new bill and stated here i took the drinks off the bill. We pointed out we had already paid the bill and she questioned us and said are you sure? We showed her the change we were just hand and pointed out yes even though we didn't agree with it that we went ahead and paid the over charge. She finally went and got the cash and reimbursed us for the...
