I cannot BELIEVE the difference one year makes. It was a disgusting experience as far as food is concerned. From being a TOP sushi restaurant to have slid to a joke is a sad thing. First, the menu was incorrect: for the appetizers, it said the sashimi had three pieces of whatever item you ordered. So we ordered the Ikura parentheses (salmon roe), which we were told would be served on cucumber. Having had this at several other places we imagined a small little cucumber sushi with Ikura. Instead, they gave us a dollop of Ikura and one 3 inch square sheet of cucumber and that was that. When we asked why, they said the ikura and the crab were the only ones that came that way - just one piece. It used to be three, but now it’s one. But of course it was not on the menu and no one would’ve known it. So we sent that back.
The next course was the salmon skin hand rolls, which we waited and waited for, although we had told our server that she should bring it out first. Needless to say, it came late, with the rest of the food. When it came, the nori was soft and soggy, the salmon skin wasn’t crispy and it was dripping in the sauce, way too much of it than we’d ever experienced - from Sushi Bang Bang or anywhere else. So although disappointed, we ate it anyway, the rice falling apart drenched in sauce.
Then came the main dish, which was always my favorite at this restaurant and it’s large. My sister and I had wanted to share it. It was the Volcano Roll, which I’ve had many, many times before. Here comes a crowning glory: the rice was soggy and never stuck together, often mushy, you could not pick it up it was rolling in the same sauce the same sauce as before! In this dish, the fish is seared and is hot with a bit of mayo but this was cold and soggy, unappetizing and not the same dish. Then there was supposed to have been whitefish in there, but there was no whitefish: possibly because we had asked to remove the imitation crab. So it was all in all, thoroughly disappointing. The rice had no flavor except it was mildly sour, it didn’t even taste like proper sushi rice it’s more like you’re eating salmon and rice and sauce with a kind of soggy salmon. If not for the sweet eel sauce, it would have been flavorless.
And then, to top it all they rang up the wrong bill and charged me four times what my bill was. The manager finally came around and apologized for that and said he wasn’t charging us at all for dinner, which was polite, but my point is, we didn’t want a free meal - we wanted to ENJOY our meal. This place looks like it’s sliding down and they should not take their old dishes for granted. In a previous review a couple of years ago, I gave Sushi Bang-Bang five stars - now it’s two for the serving staff. Although one of them charged us the wrong amount. Oh boy - what a disappointing...
Read moreI went to get lunch with high expectations and the greatest desire to spend a great time and celebrate my mom's birthday. The food was delicious, well-prepared, and presented. However, my overall experience was disappointing and uncomfortable due to the highly disrespectful and inappropriate treatment I received from the manager. The service was quite slow, but I still decided not to complain and wait; after all, it was a celebration! And I had time. Furthermore, the waitress, I must say, was as kind as possible. When it was time to pay, I decided to leave a 10% tip as a voluntary token of gratitude, considering the level of service provided since the waiter didn’t come back to check on us after the food was brought to us and there was flies all over the place (We were seating outside). What happened next was absolutely unacceptable: the manager approached me in a confrontational manner, with a rude and defiant attitude, sharply questioning how was the service and I replied it was good and the food was great (I didn't feel necessary to tell him the service wasn’t the best because I didn’t want the waiter to get in trouble) as he continued to say that he wanted to ask because I had left "so little" of a tip. He raised his voice unnecessarily, was insidious with his comments, and made me feel completely uncomfortable and embarrassed in front of other customers. It was a completely out-of-character and very unprofessional moment.
I believe I'm correct in saying that in the state of Florida, tipping is NOT required by law. Customers have every right to decide whether to tip and what percentage, especially if it's not automatically included in the bill. In fact, I believe the law protects consumers against aggressive and intimidating behavior related to tip collection. What this manager did was not only professionally reprehensible, but also a violation of my rights as a customer or consumer.
Good food doesn't justify disrespectful treatment, and I repeat, the food was delicious and left a good taste in my mouth, but the manager's service ended my happy celebration with a...
Read moreThis restaurant, for some reason seems to believe shrimp is more expensive than salmon. After several times of coming to the restaurant and ordering the routine, same dish on several occasions due to the fact that this restaurant is close to my office, I have never been charged $1.50 substitution charge For the dish that I always order. I always order the summer heat roll and substitute the salmon for shrimp tempura. I also always request no jalapeños due to not being able to support spiciness. Today Maggie Was very unprofessional due to the fact that, even though I paid the check and wanted to explain my situation to her, she still had no remorse and no consideration for a routine customer that comes often as well as brings clients to this location for frequent lunch visits for a substitution charge for replacement of salmon to shrimp tempura. In all reality, I have never seen Shrimp tempura being more expensive than salmon. I understand that I am doing a substitution however, it is actually a In which the owner can charge me the full $18 for one roll and not spend the cost of salmon. I was quite shocked to hear that $1.50 would hurt this restaurant so bad to the point of losing a routine customer that comes in and spends a minimum of $100 each visit. It’s sad that they lost a routine customer over $1.50. Maggie tried to explain to me that there is a disclosure on the menu stating that any substitutions would be $1.50 however, this disclosure is not on the menu They provided to me therefore this is just a way of trying to bring up prices to take from customers. Highway robbery at its finest. The blue light in the bathroom is not something I’m a fan of as it blinds you when you get out since it’s so dark inside it. So sad, but Maggie is the manager and the owner she claims is her father. Sometimes family owned businesses are nice but this one isn’t...
