What can you say about an unassuming, family run bbq, where, if you pull around the back to park, you get an eyeful of a huge smoker and snootful of that ‘just exactly perfect’ smoked meat aroma? Well, imho, it’s the best bbq I’ve had, with the possible exception of my cousin’s mother-in-law’s homemade pulled pork (Virginia). We make sure to hit Troy’s every time we are down here in South Florida, bypassing more than half a dozen bbq joints that are closer to home. It’s that good. This year we decided to go ribs and only ribs, although I also recommend without reservation both the pulled pork and brisket (especially those evasive ‘burnt ends’). BUT THE RIBS, are simply perfection on a plate. Smokey, succulent and delicious, served dry or wet, spicy or mild. As soon as we ordered (you order at the counter and you can watch the show), the meat man pulled out his cleaver, selected a rack from the smoker, and began to hack away with great precision. First he cut off the rib tips with one blow, 4 more separated each of the 5 meaty ribs in my order, and then a few more hacks to cut the rib tips into bite sized portions. I went spicy, my wife went sweet, but either of us would have been perfectly happy with the other. As for sides, they are all just what you hoped they’d be - collard greens, baked beans (maple and bacon - whoa!), Mac and cheese - all splendid in their own right and perfect compliments to the meat. We ended up taking the cornbread home - it’s delicious, but there’s only so much you can eat…! Make no mistake, this is a real deal bbq, so atmosphere is irrelevant - it’s not trying to be Nobu, thank goodness. It’s all the atmosphere you need for ribs. You make a mess and wipe yourself off with brown paper towels - but you can’t wipe the grin off your face. I gave it a 4 for atmosphere but, in case I wasn’t clear, atmosphere is irrelevant if you’re set to eat some real bbq, and this is as real as bbq gets. Go forth and enjoy!! Top recommendation.

Some of the best BBQ I have ever eaten. The ribs were terrific and pulled pork was very good. Portions were generous. Not much on atmosphere, it’s a converted fast food restaurant. I didn’t go for atmosphere. We arrived at 6 PM on a Saturday, only one other patron. Once our food came out, they started preparing for closing even though a couple more customers came in. They started dragging metal stools from high top tables to the other end of the restaurant. I politely asked that the chairs be lifted and not dragged as we were just starting our dinner. Made no difference. I went to the kitchen and repeated my request and was told they were preparing to close even though it was only 6:30 and they are supposed to close at 7. Now I don’t mind forking out $65 for good BBQ, but it’s downright disrespectful to be dragging metal chairs on concrete and closing early when guest are still dining. Manager didn’t seem to care and said nothing to the help dragging chairs. Would have been a solid 4 stars if they had not made dining experience unpleasant. Fortunately served in to go trays so we left. Also, highly touted burnt ends no longer on the menu. Doubt I would give them my business again.

Troy’s Barbeque is hands down is one of the top top 5 best rib shacks in Palm Beach County. The cornbread is soft, sweet and moist. The mac and cheese is cheesy and well seasoned. The yams were sweet, fresh and soft. Now the mouth watering, exquisite, heavenly, scrumptious Ribs are to die for. There’s a lot of meat on the bone for one. The ribs are pretty big, long and thick. They are seasoned and not tough. It tasted as if the ribs were marinated over night. There are several varieties of sauces to choose from. I choose the sweet sauce. Everything is freshly cooked, and I restaurant is clean, inviting, and roomy. There’s some seating outside as well. The staff is friendly, professional and knowledgeable. Those are the top three qualities every staff should have. I strongly without hesitation recommend this restaurant to my friends and family. I will definitely be supporting this business in the near future.

Not sure how they managed to get any 5 star reviews. My guess is that they are telling people to give them five star reviews for a kickback. If you want a decent rib plate, that’s actually consistent try Kravin BBQ food truck on Hypoloxo in Boynton Beach.

I’ve been here total of about four times and these people are so inconsistent that it’s not even funny. The staff all appear to be nice, but really give off junkie vibes. When I would go, I would hate to hand the guy my phone through the window to do the Apple Pay because his hands were so filthy. I always had to wipe my phone down when I got it back.

The first time that I came, I spent $30 on a combination plate and what I got was disgraceful. When they handed me the bag through the drive-through window, it didn’t even feel like anything was in the bag. I ordered the brisket/Rib dinner w/ the two sides. The brisket that they served me seemed like old dry deli meat. One piece was just in a big hard chunk. It was the butt end of the brisket and it was cut entirely to thick along with two very small slices about 2 inches long each. The mac & cheese was trash and the greens were so salty that I had to spit them out. They weren’t edible at all. So to serve greens in that state is just irresponsible. The only fairly decent thing that they gave me were three tiny little small ribs.

I thought because they had so many good reviews that maybe they just had an off day , so I went a second time and got a rib tip snack plate that was Just basically all dried out rib tips with a few fresh pieces inside of the container. It was like they mixed old meat from the day before with fresh meat to save money, but I still wanted to give them a chance, so I want THIRD time a couple of months later on my birthday to order the same thing and luckily I was able to get all fresh rib tips.. So that kind of redeemed them from the first two times of getting horrible food. Then about a few months later, I went back for a fourth time and ended up getting trash food again , I ordered the same rib tip snack again , and all they gave me were dried out pieces of meat and Literally about a half a hand full of fries and just through it in the box, it really almost seemed like they did it on purpose. I was so angry that I ended up calling the manager to complain. she was actually pretty nice and told me that I can come back in and they would give me a free rib tip plate , but no thanks !!!

I think they pick and choose who they want to give good food to but after the last time, it’s gonna be a hard no for me. They need to focus on being more consistent and getting some better quality people...

Review of Troy’s Barbecue and Southern Chicken Restaurant

From the moment we stepped into Troy’s Barbecue and Southern Chicken Restaurant, we knew we were in for something special. The vibrant atmosphere, combined with the tantalizing aroma of smoked meats and Southern spices, set the stage for what turned out to be an unforgettable dining experience.

We decided to try a variety of dishes, including the Chicken and Waffles, the Ribs & Pulled Pork Combo, and the Breakfast Brisket Sandwich. Each dish was a testament to the culinary expertise and passion that the team at Troy’s brings to their kitchen. The Chicken and Waffles were a delightful blend of crispy, perfectly seasoned chicken served atop fluffy, golden waffles—an indulgent yet satisfying combination that left us wanting more. The Ribs & Pulled Pork Combo was nothing short of spectacular; the ribs were tender and bursting with flavor, while the pulled pork melted in our mouths, accompanied by a rich, smoky barbecue sauce that elevated the entire meal. The Breakfast Brisket Sandwich was another highlight, featuring succulent brisket piled high on a toasted bun, harmoniously balanced with fresh toppings and a hint of tangy sauce.

Initially, we were a bit taken aback by the price of the meals, but once the food arrived, our apprehensions melted away. The portions were generous, providing significant value for our investment. In fact, we were pleasantly surprised to find that we had enough food to feed two adults and a child for two meals! The leftovers were a bonus that we eagerly enjoyed the next day, and they tasted just as amazing as when they were first served.

One of the standout moments of our visit was enjoying the twisted lemonade, which had a nostalgic flavor reminiscent of the beloved Bomb Pop popsicles from childhood. It was a refreshing complement to our meal and left us wishing we could take a jug home!

Service at Troy’s was equally commendable. Our server was attentive, friendly, and knowledgeable about the menu, ensuring that our dining experience was seamless from start to finish. The combination of great service and outstanding food made for an all-around delightful outing.

In conclusion, Troy’s Barbecue and Southern Chicken Restaurant exceeded our expectations in every way. The deliciousness of the food, the generous portions, and the overall vibrant atmosphere have secured our commitment to return. If you’re seeking a place to indulge in authentic Southern barbecue and chicken, look no further. Don’t miss out on the twisted lemonade—it’s an experience you won’t want to miss! Thank you, Troy’s, for an amazing time. We will...

A MUST READ!!! THIS COMPANY IS COMMITTING FRAUD!! Do NOT support this business. I placed a catering order with Troys Barbeque on behalf of my company for about 65 staff members. We paid in advance for our food ($1060.30), delivery ($100), and 20% tip ($230). On the day of delivery, our delivery time of 11:30 AM approached and no one from Troys arrived or called with an update. I reached out to the location in Boynton Beach and the employee said he would have the catering team call me back. Another 15 minutes passed, so I reached out to Troys again. This time their phone number was not working and I kept receiving a message that “this number cannot be reached at this time”. After trying to call a total of 22 times, other employees calling multiple times, and waiting another 30 minutes, I had no other choice but to tell the staff to go out and get their lunch instead. This was so disappointing because we initially placed an order with Chipotle but decided to switch to Troys because we wanted to support a black-owned business in our local community. At 12:20 and after many of our staff members already left to go get lunch, a black Range Rover with FAMU plates pulled into our facility. To our surprise, it was our delivery from Troys. We told the driver about the situation and said we could not accept the food. He told us he was just the “UBER driver” and could give us a 1800 number to call but he would just throw the food away if we didn’t accept it. After a few moments we realized this “UBER driver” looked exactly like the owner of Troys as his picture is front and center on the website. We pulled up the picture and asked the “UBER Driver”, isn’t this you, Anthony Barber, the owner of Troy’s BBQ? HE ADMITTED IT WAS HIM!! This isn’t even the worst part, with about 10 of our employees surrounding the vehicle and our security cameras in clear view, we said we were going to dispute this charge on our credit card. He then said, “you can dispute the charge, your card company will give you your money back and I will still retain this money in my business”. He then asks us to step aside and he pulled off with our food. Anthony Barber clearly is entitled, self-serving, and committing fraud. Which is sad to say because as a black owned business you should strive to rise above and stand as a pillar within your community. I hope that everyone can now see the true colors of Troy’s BBQ and chooses to take their business to an establishment that operates legally...
