First off, let me state that I am very grateful this place is here. Leaving an abusive relationship, having a lousy family, next to no resources for women who have found the courage to leave a domestic violence situation, and finally, blowing the transmission in my Jeep in Big Timber, left me in the worst predicament I have faced yet. I would have gone hungry more nights without your services. As I struggle to find a job (yes, I know, EVERYONE is hiring) and submitting around 200 plus resumes and applications these last couple of months, means that apparently I must be missing all the employers who are REALLY hiring, and keep finding the businesses who are keeping job listings up, to suggest either a business or the economy is doing better than it actually is- I have had a couple of very good meals there. I have only used your services I think 4 or 5 times, but I felt like tonight's meal ought to be brought to the attention of whomever is in charge there. I'm trying hard not to feel offended by what I was given as a Vegetarian Lasagna meal, but when it's charred black, burnt to a crisp, and basically inedible, I have to say, the people who use your services are struggling, or homeless, or experiencing some type of life difficulties, but they are human beings, regardless. I would not have served that to a dog, much less a human being, when that may be the only meal they have had all day. Whomever looked at that portion, and thought it looked OK (or good enough for the clientele anyway) should have their eyes checked and their...
Read moreAn amazing pay what you can restaurant for all members of our community! They have done a great job making the restaurant feel welcoming and friendly. Open, clean dining room with plenty of space for small or large groups. They had an attentive and kind staff that cleared our plates and helped out with anything we asked (found out that all of which are volunteers).
They use a rotating menu with three-four entrée options (went with the pulled pork sandwich and it was fantastic) and the choice of picking up to 3 sides to go with (had the potato curry soup and the green beans, both were great). They also have a pick what you want kids menu and desserts for side options.
It is truly pay what you can, there is no pressure or pricing - they simply ask if you'd like to contribute to your meal after you order. Was nice contributing as much as we would have spent going out to eat but knowing that what we gave will help others get a warm, delicious meal.
Great experience and a wonderful place to go. Appreciate HRDC setting up and maintaining such a beneficial...
Read moreI was invited to join a friend here for dinner and they seemed very excited. I arrived ten minutes early and sat down inside on one of the only two available seats to wait for my friend. A few minutes later two more people came in to wait and a rude woman kicked everyone out, including an elder man with a knee problem whom she told to sit on the steps. Her reason for kicking people out was that she didn't want people sitting inside waiting because things weren't ready yet. I'm finding this experience very unpleasant, and discourteous. I'm aware that a bench used to be outside where people could wait, and there is no longer one there. This cafe gets support from community members and other people who come for a pleasant experience and with the idea that this is a community oriented place. I'm afraid that the people volunteering and working here need to learn how to deal with stress and still be kind to possible paying guests, and those who are unable to pay. We are all human and all deserve to be treated with kindness, respect and...
