First thing when we were seated we ordered apps... we were then given a few minutes and asked by the first waitress if we knew what we wanted to eat already. It is understandable to ask that because we could have been repeat customers. Since we were not, i told her we needed time because we just sat and didn't know the menu. Waitress two comes over a few minutes later to ask if we knew what we wanted to eat... I politely told her we didn't get but a few minutes from the last waitress asking. I, again, completely understand they want to offer quick and efficient service. Love that it seems like they wanna be attentive. This happened on repeat about 4 more times.. I finally said, "Hey, thank you for checking on us, but there are a LOT of options here, and we're just trying to read them. Could you give us some time? It's getting to the point that we're getting a little anxious that you're rushing us." I didn't even finish that sentence before she walked away from me talking to her. I also want to point out that we were in a corner so dark we had to use our phones to even read the menu... and the music BLARING so loud we can't hear each other talk (or yell for that matter) across the small table. When my Chirashi plate came, it wasn't the amount of sashimi advertised on the website (15pc) so I flagged down the waitress to ask about it and pulled it up on my phone. She tells me the website needs to be updated, and it's not her fault; she claimed the menu says 13pc. I then tell her that there is still just 12pc there... She takes my plate from me to show the kitchen and gets 3 pcs added. Im very thankful and even apologized for the hassle, wanting to show my appreciation that she handled it for me....
Long story short... If you can handle questionable service, the food was bangin... Atmosphere sucked.. Staff got their job...
Read moreI must say that I was really looking forward to eating at Yokohama. All the ratings and photos had me excited to eat ramen.
I got there a little after 1230. I literally was the only customer in the place. I was greeted immediately and seated. I was given a couple of menus to look over. No specials were noted.
I asked my server for a type of sushi that I grew up eating. The server was quick to tell me that it was not served there. I decided to get the Tonkatsu Ramen.
Being half Japanese, I'm very familiar with the custom of food preparation and serving. I must say I was very disappointed in the bowl of ramen I received. There was nothing appealing about it. It was basically loaded with scallions with 2 pieces of pork, half of a misshapen egg which was not prepared correctly, 2 pieces of bamboo shoots, and 2 pieces of imitation crab.
I did eat it as it was that bad. The broth was a bit bland, and I took a couple of big spoons of it to really taste it. I didn't finish it. The noodles were good and had the right amount of chewiness and spring. The pork was charred like I like it. But overall, it wasn't the experience I had hoped for.
I don't know that I'd go out of the way to eat there again as there are many others that serve a better ramen.
The atmosphere was a bit confusing between the Japanese music and the hard rock. The place was dark and had a lot of dark lacquered furniture.
If you're looking for ramen, I'd recommend...
Read moreReading the reviews, I was really hoping this place would be great, and become my new ramen place. However, it was not meant to be.
The overall vibe is rather dark, but cozy. This wasn’t an issue until we sat down and there was a used straw in the booth seat. Furthermore, the bar next door’s music is so loud you can hear it clearly while Yokohama’s stereo system cuts in and out during your entire meal. All of this would be fine if the meal was good, well…
I had the spicy shoyu ramen with pork. I asked for a 10 on the spiciness level, and it was about a 3. I wanted my ramen to make me cry, and it barely tickled my tastebuds. They offered chili oil, but that always has an artificial spice and at a certain point your ramen just becomes oil. Furthermore, the pork was very overcooked and dry, kind of impressive since it’s submerged in liquid. The broth and noodles were fine, I’ve had better eggs, and overall it was disappointing.
Next surprise came with our check. At the beginning of the meal we were told that hot sake was 2 for 1 that night. We got two, and were charged for two. We brought this up with our waitress, who said she gave us a larger size of two hot sakes. The menu only has one size for the hot sake, and we were charged for that size. If what we got was truly a larger size, we had no way of knowing, and it wasn’t what...
