1928 Cocktail Club — Restaurant in Branford

We first visited in May and had a fantastic experience sitting at the bar. The bartender was friendly, engaging, and excited when we asked if he could create custom cocktails—exactly the kind of service you’d hope for at a cocktail-focused spot.

Unfortunately, our next two visits were the complete opposite. When we came back in July, none of the bartenders greeted us when we walked in, despite the bar being nearly empty. After waiting 15 minutes, a bartender finally approached our table with no smile or introduction—just a flat “what can I get you.” When one of us asked if she could make something with vodka and lemon, she responded, “We don’t do that, you can order off the menu.” The lack of warmth and personality was disappointing.

Hoping that was just an off night, we gave it one more try. Sadly, it was the same. We waited another 15 minutes before anyone approached, drinks took about 20 minutes to arrive, and there was no friendliness or interaction. Guests sat for long stretches with empty glasses without being checked on, and when it came time to pay, no one brought us a check—we had to walk up to the bar to ask. Again, this was on a night that was not busy at all.

After two negative experiences in a row, we’ve decided not to return. It’s a shame, because our first visit showed us how great this place could be with the...

OVERPRICED, ONE AND DONE!

We stopped by this place for a round of drinks. We heard it had a speakeasy vibe. There is a small foyer where you have to knock on the door, and you are asked for a password to gain entry.

The inside is spacious and dark. They do not split checks and automatically add tips, which was shady because our server wasn't the friendliest. When a server has to work for tips, you usually get a better experience. When the tip is automatically added, the service is reflective of what we got. Substandard!

When we got the bill...OMG. Are you kidding me. I've never been shocked before, and I go to NYC often, who tend to charge on the higher end due to higher rents. With that being said. If you want to take out a small loan to drink, this is the place to go.

By the way. One of our friends ordered a green drink that was supposed to glow due to a light on the bottom of the glass. The light wouldn't stick to the glass, and he had to hold onto the drink because it wouldn't sit flush on the table. He said it was completely annoying. Of course, he was charged full price for this 1/2 assed...

Everything about 1928 is top-notch: Their drinks, the service, the atmosphere. My husband & I love it so much, that we decided to have our wedding reception here! Tony & Frank were an absolute dream to work with from start to finish. They're both professional, reliable, easy to work with, they truly made it their mission to make our vision come to life and they did an amazing job. We had 75+ people at our party and the quality of the drinks and the service from each bartender never wavered.
