This literally was the worst experience in my entire life!!!!!!! I am still in shock, hurt and shaken to my core, I pride myself on giving detailed and honest reviews, and I advise you to read this one in full. We were greeted kindly and the kindness stopped there. It took the waitress a long time even to come over just to take drink orders. They said that there were some large parties in front of us, but at the end of the day what we saw was that they were understaffed and this had been the case at each other restaurants throughout the resort. This place is reservation only so they should’ve been prepared for the guests that were arriving. We waited for our food for over an hour and we were very much getting upset. When they finally bought the scallop appetizer, it was actually delicious…. But nothing else came. The table next to us asked us how long we have been waiting because they were getting upset as well and we informed them that we have been waiting over an hour. They came after us and had been waiting a similar amount of time and were voicing their frustration because they were starving . When the food finally came, it was a complete battle because nothing was right. All three of the people that ordered steaks were not happy with the way that steaks were cooked. My friend ordered the $150 wagyu, which did not look like any I’d ever seen and we’ve had plenty. Instead of the manager trying to fix anything she came over an initiated an argument, saying that it was wagyu and telling them their food was cooked right . It was truly shocking and unbelievable with the the back-and-forth. Her customer service was horrendous!! The fish in my dish was ok, but nothing else was really good about it. Needed a ton of salt and pepper. The lobster my friend had wasn’t cooked through and he was very upset. At the end, my friend said just take everything back bc she didn’t even want to eat anything . The manager rudely said she will have to pay for the two sides that she did not consume . Please see video. Never in my life at a supposed 5 star restaurant have I had a manager aggressively tell you that you have to pay for something that you didn’t eat. She left and the rest of us paid for our food. As we were leaving the table next to us had saw the argument with the manager and they were conversing very kindly and asked us what happened . when I turned around the manager was behind me saying that I was bothering the people and she had already called the police. The people at the table said no, we engaged with her and was asking her questions and we were just chatting. The Manager was mad about the whole situation and called the police and tried to have me charge with criminal trespassing. I could not believe it. I’m still in shock and heartbroken by the cruelty. I was shake to my core! Never in my life have I been in any kind of trouble with the law. Needless to say we left but I started video recording for my protection and safety and have the video footage of the people saying that I did not bother them and they asked us a question when we were on the way out the restaurant. When I told the police that I didn’t do anything, he said “ this is Georgia, you don’t have to do nothing“. What??? My rights were severely violated. All I can tell everyone is never ever go here! It was the most harrowing and disturbing experience of my life. The night manager is a special kind of cruel to treat someone so poorly, and then threaten to have them arrested for just being unhappy with the food and service. It was horrid and when you spend that kind of money you don’t expect to be...
Read moreTHE WORST FINE DINNING EXPERIENCE I'VE EVER HAD!!! I rarely bother to write reviews, but this one was just bad. Where do I even begin? Booked a reservation for a party of 5 for a birthday celebration for my wife. I dropped the party off at the entrance and went to go park. On my walk back, I was asked to take a few pictures by a really nice family celebrating at the winery and I agreed. Took me about 10 mins to make my way back to the restaurant entrance. To my surprise, my entire party was still standing in the middle of an empty restaurant, not a host in sight. Let that sink in, my party was standing at the host stand for 10 mins without being acknowledged. And even though there were waiters and a bartender within eyesight, no one had said a word to them. When I walk in and observe this, I motion to the bartender, who then reluctantly goes to get the host. She comes out about a min later, I can't recall if she apologized for the wait or not, but whatever I brush it off, let's have a fun evening. Now I want to point out that the inside of the restaurant was completely EMPTY when we arrived. There were two or three tables occupied on the patio, it's a Wednesday night, but inside was completely empty, so they were not busy AT ALL. Rest of the night goes well, waiter was decent, not the best service, but certainly not bad, very sufficient. Food was just okay, certainly not worth the prices but not horrible. We order the biscuits and scallops for appetizers, 1 NY Strip, 1 Ribeye, 1 Lamb Rack, 2 Snapper Pappardelle. For sides we got the Whiped Potatoes, Fried Brussels, Brocollini, and a bottle of Sauvignon Blanc for the table, all sufficient, not great food but not bad. My wife also ordered the cheesecake dessert and a glass of champagne. All in bill was close to $600. Now, here are my major issues: my wife's order was one of the pappardelle's, it was a lil bland so she asked for pepper and cheese. Pretty standard items right? Wrong, they added $3 to the bill for these items. I had informed them when I made the reservation that it was my wife's bday, I also reminded the host when she finally showed up. It is very much standard practice to comp the desert for the celebrant, did Marc's? Of course not. I was not even angry about this, surprised, but again I let it slide, it's a celebration. What really got me was that charge for cheese and pepper. For one the waiter never mentioned it would be an extra charge when she asked for them, secondly, when I ponted this out to the Manager, and the fact we just spent close to $600 to be charged $3 for pretty standard items, she just shrugged and said there was nothing she could do, it's their standard kitchen practice. My jaw dropped but again did not want ro ruin my wife's evening so I dropped the issue. All in all, Marc's is a sub par experience with sub par food for what you are spending. Beautifully stunning location but that's about it. There are many, many better options in Atlanta where the overall experience better matches your dollar. With the initial wait time, the acceptable food, the lack of professionalism, and frankly poor customer service by the manager, I believe the whole operation is just sloppy and lazy. They are not interested in repeat business, instead they are ridding the wave of being located inside Cheatu Elan and the out of towners/visitors/special occasions who visit...
Read moreMy husband and I celebrated our 20 year anniversary at Marc’s while staying at Chateau Elan, and while many of our experiences at this venue were lovely, the dinner at Marc’s easily tops them all, and dare I say, perhaps ruined steak for me. But I’ll get to that in a minute.
Before I delve into the meal itself, I’d like to offer top marks for the waitstaff. Our waiter was polite, professional, conversational without being intrusive, and knowledgeable. His ability to make a wine recommendation based on my shared preferences was fabulous; he offered a sample as well to ensure I was happy with the selection, which was spot on what I was looking for. The atmosphere was comfortable and our waiter was attentive but without interrupting the intimacy of the evening.
Our food came out without much wait time, properly cooked to our requests, beautifully presented, and incredibly flavorful and impressive, which brings me my evaluation of the plates offered.
We began with a scallop appetizer, which was cooked to such a level of perfection that it seems impossible to have done them so perfectly. It’s as though they managed to cook the scallops as much as they needed to be fully cooked, down to the second, without cooking them even a second longer. They were served over a puree (sweet potato or squash, I believe) that was exactly as spicy as you can get without interfering with the ability to taste and enjoy the food. This presented a Surprising, delicious, and well balanced combination of flavors.
I also had the duck, which was for certain the best duck I’ve ever had, but by then, my husband’s steak had also arrived, and that quickly became the star of the show. I have not had a steak as delicious in twenty years (since the night my husband and I married) and it’s been so long since then, I can’t say for certain which is better, but the steak alone made this dinner memorable and has set the bar for what I expect from steak going forward. Which may be unlikely to be matched at this point.
The steak, cooked medium as requested, had the most delicious outer crust and a savory grilled flavor. The seasonings brought out the taste of the steak (which was a quality tomahawk cut) without competing with the flavor of the steak itself. I didn’t know steak could be THIS good and now steak is forever ruined for me if it’s not going to be this good. It’s the only “downside” I can offer to this meal, and I can hardly fault the restaurant for that. I’ll just be glad to have lived a life with a meal that good.
By the end of the meal, I felt as though I’d just had a good massage - yes, it was that good. It was so good that I felt content and relaxed and overall just…good in every way.
I go out to eat OFTEN (several times a week) and this is the best food I’ve had in a very long time. Perhaps ever. If a steakhouse could make me want to move somewhere, this would make me want to move to Braselton.
It really is that good.
Thank you to all of Marc’s for the most incredible dinner.
PS: while we have no allergies, I appreciate that they checked before taking our order. That was so thoughtful, and that air of consideration and accommodation was threaded throughout our...
