Brentwood Cafe — Restaurant in Brentwood

My last visit here was at least 35 years ago when meals here were a regular part of my life. I realize that pretty much has changed behind the scenes is different now and wasn't sure what to expect once my food arrived but the crowd and people waiting to be seated said a lot. I walked around a bit to reminisce a bit. Everything was the same but better. Lol if that makes sense. They have remained true to the spirit that has made that place so special while adding subtle improvements with simple decor. My breakfast was delicious! Truly! I ordered the California Eggs Benedict, I am very critical about hollandaise sauce and have only YUM to say about theirs. My son had the fluffiest pancakes and he said they were great. I grew up in the area and used to love Brentwood cafe! Unfortunately I won’t be back. When we walked in, a lady waved us over, did not smile or anything so seemed aggressive, and put our name down. It took as 45 minutes to be seated, then another 45 just to get our food. The waitress never checked on us. She came by to take order, drop off check. Didn’t even say anything when dropping off the check. It was very busy, so maybe that’s why, but just seemed like we did not receive the same service as the other tables. The food itself was not very good. The potatoes were burnt, the French toast was not sweet and just tasted like eggs, bland eggs! The French toast was inedible in my book. Not to mention the prices are very high in comparison to other breakfast places...

We usually come here with others in town, but decided to try eating here for one of our lunch dates. Would have liked to see some lighter options available, but understand that's not their market. We enjoyed the food pretty well, and service was extremely friendly... didn't have to ask for drink refills a few times. Asked to move tables and the person clearing the tables didn't even look at us, but they weren't swamped so it didn't seem like a problem. Would return again with out-of-towners or perhaps a business lunch -- although it may be too loud to talk much in-depth business.
