David's Catfish House - Brewton — Restaurant in Brewton

My parents warned us not to go here, but we wanted to experience it for ourselves - I wish I had heeded their warning.

First issue was ordering the 1/2 pound of Crab Claws - the server apologized right after I ordered it and said that they were told to warn customers it was expensive. I asked what it was and was surprised that a 1/2 pound of crab claws (pretty sure they are not fresh and are just frozen in bulk) was $29.99 for 1/2 LB! Well forget that - we will get the Mozzarella Sticks instead. Took a bit longer than you would expect for the appetizer to come out, but when it did, again the apologies started - "we ran out of marinara sauce". Really? ugh - they served it with ranch instead, which was not ideal. The sticks though were square and not cooked through in the center, it was like someone took a moz stick, breaded it and flash fried it for 1 minute. Bland, cool to the touch, not good.

Both of our combo meals were bland, and under seasoned. The only thing that was properly cooked was the shrimp, and they were good. The oysters were under cooked and the breading was falling off and soggy.

We also had to endure idiots behind us who obviously did not know the proper way to call a waitress. They kept whistling and snapping their fingers like she was a dog or something. Manager saw this and never said a word.

Yeah, this was the first and last time we ate at a David's Catfish House, which is sad because we love catfish and there are so few options in Century / Brewton / Flomaton /...

I can't speak to atmosphere, as I do pickup. I order the seafood plater/ sweet pot/ side salad with blue cheese dressing. I also order fried green tomatoes. I am old and this order usually feeds me at least 3 meals. I love seafood so I do this once a month. I have done the same order twice now. I don't review to be critical. I do it to point out weakness that can be easily improved. The first time I made this order I recieved baked potato instead of sweet pot and I recieved the blue cheese I asked for. The seafood plate was awesome. This last order, for the same, I recieved a tiny sweet pot, ok, and ranch dressing instead of blue cheese. I paid for fried green tom, but when I opened the bag at super time the green tomato order was missing. I called. I had picked up the order at 1:15 and did not open to eat untill 8pm. The lady wanted me to come back for the tom order. I live 30 min away. I was told I will get them free when I return by giving my name. I expect to try again next month when my SSI comes and I go out for groceries. I'll let you know. 😁👍 Also, I do tip 10% at the pickup. (Oh, and at the risk of being petty... hey David's... aren't you better than giving your 'followers' fake butter?? That is really disappointing. When I order crab legs, WHAT are you going to give me to dip...

Every time I go to David's Catfish in Brewton it's like going to David's Catfish everywhere. They treat you with respect and they cater to your every need making you feel right at home from the moment you walk in to the moment you pay your bill and walk out. David's Catfish is not a seafood place. Don't confuse catfish with seafood. Seafood comes from the Gulf and the ocean catfish come out of ponds. Still you can get some good shrimp and a few other dishes that are Seafood but why would you want to do that when they have the best catfish in the world and the best service and staff I've ever seen. I have never been to David's Catfish and tipped the waitress less than half of the bill. They work hard for what they make and I can promise you you tip them well and when you go back they will remember you and your service will only get better. Thank you to all those in Brewton at David's Catfish who make all of my trips to the restaurant wonderful. It just goes to show they have a good manager and a well-trained staff because...
