Funchal Americana — Restaurant in Bridgeport

Shoutout to Val and the good people at Funchal's! This is their 3rd location, downtown Bridgeport since what? 2011 They know how to be flexible in an ever changing market for local cafe's and that especially means a lot, in a city like Bridgeport. Their menu always works and they really know how to meet the needs of their customers. Their locations are clean, safe, and comfortable. Service is on point and I can't be grateful enough that they're still around. The breakfast buffet was delicious and the greedy person in me is kicking myself because they had some kind of fried rice up there next to everything else, but I didn't get it. At any rate, do yourself a favor and stop in to get something to eat or drink. They're great for first thing in the morning or court downtown or waiting for your next bus. They have seating inside and outside. Tried the lunch buffet today - BANGIN'! Mac and cheese, empanada, rice, fried chicken, and BBQ bacon...

I am really disappointed with this place. I am 6 months pregnant and this place was the closest store for a drink. I ordered a smoothie because I was told by the cashier it was fresh fruits and not the frozen smoothie. I ordered a MIX fruit smoothie from the owner directly and told him mango, strawberry etc but no milk. I received my smoothie and it looked like a process mango drink, I had a seat and took a sip and it tasted how it look. I started having an allergic reaction and I went back to ask if this was natural fruits because I’m allergic to something in it and I did not like the smoothie. He said it was natural fruits and the best seller, I told him this can’t be natural fruits he said it’s “good frozen” mangoes. I said well I’m allergic can I change the drink and he said “NO it’s already made”. I ended up paying $7.99 plus tax for the drink I left on the counter undrinken. SMH customer service is poor, I will not be visiting...

Funchal Americana is part of the Funchal family of eateries in Bridgeport. Many many choices for breakfast and lunch, though I confess that I have only tried their breakfasts, but if the lunches are a great as their breakfasts, then all is well! Delicious breakfast sandwiches (always fresh ingredients, and their cooks have nothing to hide as they prepare your food in front of you) and a crazy-big board loaded with lunch options - very imaginative sandwiches and salads. Plenty of beverage selections, too - both hot and cold. Sit comfortably and socialize with other Bridgeport denizens, or watch the people passing by on the sidewalk, or get your goodies to go. Very reasonably priced. Funchal's Americana is loaded with Bridgeport pride, baby! A place like this should definitely put Shrunkin Donuts and ShlubWay out...
