My fiancé and found the little town of St. Clairsville, OH on a little weekend getaway about 6 months ago and fell in love with the town. I have always had an obsession with real down home bakeries. After some searching online, I came across "The Fat Apple Bakery". It was only 30 minutes away, so we decided to go. Parking is very limited and a little confusing if your not familiar with the area like us. There are two different floors. The 2nd floor is a play room and is also where they have their own little make a stuffed animal set up like a little "build a bear". We plan to go back and make one soon. The first floor is the actual bakery. When you first walk in its a little overwhelming with just how much candy and goodies there are. But that soon turns to joy with the great atmosphere and friendly staff. They have almost everything labeled as to what it is,which makes it extremely nice with such a huge selection. It was awesome to see a lot of candies from my childhood and they had the more modern candies as well. They had a wide selection of gourmet chocolate apples, breads, pepperoni rolls, cupcakes, cannolis, cheesecakes, gourmet topped brownies, all different kinds of cakes and pies (by the slice or the whole thing). We purchased a dozen cupcakes, hot pepper cheese pepperoni rolls( being from WV we have both had several different pepperoni rolls over the years, these we definitely in the top 5), a butterfinger chocolate covered apple, and 2 cannolis ( I have never had an authentic cannoli, but these were delicious. Crispy shell and delicious rich filling). We will definitely be going back next time we're near the area. Give it a try, you won't be disappointed. There is literally something...
Read moreI went in today around 12:10 so I could get some snacks before a zoom appt I had at 12:30. I try not to be late with anything but I couldn’t resist going in. Well, the store has definitely grown, there were so many new things like different kinds of nuts, macaroons (I got 4) and kids items for holidays. So I ended up spending a little too much time looking around and by the time my arms were full and ready to check out it was very close to 12:30. I went to stand in line, behind 3 people. This is the only problem I have with the store, there’s only 1 register. People end up buying a lot and the line moves really slow so make sure you leave time to stand in line. I started to get a smidge antsy after a while and asked the girl Sarah that helped me with some of my treats if there was another register to checkout. She told me there was not but she helped me get through to check out quickly. She was very polite, caring, and understood when things happen and you need some extra help. She also knew the pricing of a lot of items I asked her about earlier. I really appreciate her helping me, she made my day. Nothing like having some chocolate in the car during a zoom call! Thank you again Sarah. I’ll be back to...
Read moreThis place is mind-blowing. It's as if a group of kids came up with a business plan and someone on Shark Tank was crazy enough to actually fund it. Even before you get inside, there's a huge real-life doll house near the entrance. Step inside, and there's a retro diner and massive candy store and bakery in the first floor. The second equally-large floor is a giant stuffed animal + make believe dress up + toys venue. It's like Santa's secret warehouse or something, where he keeps all the toys until Christmas. Some of the rides for young children are free. Everyone is so friendly. It's hard to describe just how special this place is. I've visited bakeries and toy stores all over the world, and this place is on another level... it shouldn't exist, because no business person would ever green-light all the inventory and the huge square footage, yet it somehow does exist... and that's what makes it so special. I did a build-a-bear upstairs and also got a cookie. Really unique, fun place, that's...
