Eden Family Restaurant — Restaurant in Wheeling

I read and write a lot of reviews and take them seriously. On rare occasions, the reviews do not match the restaurant and I get the feeling that a restaurant's reviews were written by the employees and their friends and family. This was one of those rare occasions. They may fool someone once, but they won't come back!

Not to be mean, but this is a dive bar (which can be good if done right, which it wasn't) and NOT a "family restaurant". It is in a somewhat sketchy neighborhood with sketchy bar patrons and metal security doors on every entrance. If this is a 4.5* restaurant, I would hate to see a sub 4* restaurant!!!

When we arrived, there was one table with 2 customers finishing their meals. The bartender/waitress, who was the only server working, was friendly and greeted us as soon as we entered. Their prices were high for the sketchy "atmosphere" and the quality of the food. We could have gotten chicken or steak salads at another restaurant for less than their steak hoagie and fries, which is what we both ordered. The "steak" was like Steakums, but somehow it took over 45 minutes to prepare our food! How can it POSSIBLY take over 45 minutes to make 2 processed steak sandwiches and 2 orders of fries, with no other diners in the restaurant??? I must say that the hand cut fries were excellent, but unfortunately they were room temp and not crispy by the time we got them because they sat in the window for at least 5 minutes while the bartender/ waitress made drinks for the people at the bar. It is imperative for hot food to be served hot, especially after waiting over 45 minutes for it!!! It seemed like most of the other people in the bar were regulars and they give priority to the regulars over new diners. The "steak" hoagies were flavorless with way too low of a meat-to-bun ratio. They were so dry and flavorless that we had to put ketchup on them to eat them. Dry, flavorless, room temperature, slow food is NOT a good combination!!!

To make matters worse, they have a very steep ramp in the entrance, which is not ADA compliant. They have a sign acknowledging that and saying to ask for help if necessary, but since there is a closed door between the entrance and the bar/restaurant, I am not sure how you are supposed to ask for help. I could not recommend this...

Terrible service!!! I got the burger well done with bacon. The burger was bloody as can be and they forgot the bacon. I waited forever to get a refill on my water and had to go up to the bar to get my change. Paying 60 dollars for food I would not eat is unacceptable. She offered only a dessert that I'm unable to eat instead of taking off the price of the burger.

2-20-22...reading their comment shows what kind of business they are. Nobody wanted a free meal. A decent place would have took off the 15-16 dollar burger price for sure. Took over an hour to get our food. For a family of 3. Two hogies and a kids tenders. 10mins after the waitress said the food would be coming out now and they'll discount the food. As we were getting up to go she brought the food out. Got 10 percent off a 40 dollar meal which they still messed it up and they gave us Eden bucks for next time.... No they weren't packed.
