If you want a thorough and honest review from a former employee, come no further. To start, the manager (David) is a good guy at heart but can be very off-putting at times because his heart and soul is into the restaurant. He's been working for the restaurant since he was a young boy and will do whatever it takes to keep his family's legacy going. With that being said, he can put a lot of stress on the employees but he also holds them to a pretty high standard. So if you've had a problem with a server not knowing the items or an item that wasn't cooked right it was most likely someone new because he won't put up with mistakes for too long. Overall the food is good and fairly priced. In my opinion, try the chicken or steak salads. The menu is filled with great food but those are my favorites. The atmosphere is very family friendly and can get very loud at times when the restaurant is full. David holds a VERY strict policy where your entire party must be present to be seated, so be warned. Friday and Saturday nights you will almost always have to wait, but it is worth it. The pies are baked fresh in the restaurant, and the soup is homemade from the Wooden Angel's kitchen and is amazing. Pecan balls and high school sundaes are deserts big enough to share for sure and are worth it so save room. You won't go wrong by picking Bert's, and if you've had a bad experience then try something new, sit towards the back of the restaurant if possible,...
Read moreI loved the outside atmosphere with the nice tree for shade, the lights, and flowers on each table. I didn't care for the food much though. The wings had too much breading on them (where's the chicken?). Also, if you don't like spicy wings, there is very little choice. We ordered a steak salad. The steak was good and tender. The salad however was just plain iceburg lettuce and had a half of a hard boiled egg (not even a whole egg!). The ranch dressing was just average. It's a shame. I really liked the outside sitting area, but I'm not going to go back. **update: we decided to give it a second try. The French onion soup was perfection!!!! The taste: perfect, the ratio of onion to broth to cheese: perfect. I had a special of the day, which was a salad with chicken, strawberries, mangoes, and feta cheese. It was really good. My husband had a bacon cheeseburger, and that was good too. At this point, we'll...
Read moreA friend recommended the place as my wife was looking for good fries. Our first time there. The waitress was great, friendly and cheerful as was the other staff that we interacted with. The food was average diner quality I guess. the salmon on the salmon salad was great, nice flavor and texture, the salad was wasn't spectacular, felt like it was an after thought. Wife had a burger, she only ate 1/4 of it. It was very very cooked (I finished it). we shared a basket of shoe string fries which were average as well. The place has been around for 70+ years, a Beaver, PA institution, felt like they had a steady stream of regulars and do a lot of business. I just had a much higher expectation as it's connected to The Wooden Angel which is more of a fancier/date type establishment. I'll most likely not return to the wooden indian, but I will give the Wooden Angel a shot on...
