Our experience was terrible. The older man working the front was very rude. Did not reply to my âHello how are you?â, would not make eye contact, refused to answer any questions, and rushed us as we were making our order. My daughter and I were sharing a philly steak sandwich, and I stressed to him politely to please make sure that the mayo was on the side as my daughter is allergic to eggs. Again, he would not look at me or acknowledge anything I said. So after I paid, I politely reminded the lady who was cooking. She just looked at me and made a rude face. When our food was ready, I saw that she placed cheese sticks with our order. I didnât realize that my son ordered them, but all I said was that I didnât think they were oursâ and didnât want to take somebody elseâs food. She rudely said that âWell you ordered them so you better take them.â Wow. We started to eat and found that she put the mayo on all of the sandwiches. My daughter said not to say anything that she was fine and would just eat some fries. But all of the fried foods were overdone and tasted bad. The onion rings were really burnt. Tables were dirty, and we had to wipe them off ourselves with some napkins. The cooler where the potato salad, chocolates, soda, etc was not running and everything was warm. The bathroom had an out of order sign on it so we couldnât wash our hands. As we were leaving I heard the lady say that she was going to use the bathroom, and the man told her that it was unlocked. So Iâm guessing that they just didnât want customers to use it. We left hungry because we didnât eat much and didnât bother to complain because quite frankly it wasnât worth it. There were other people in there that were given much better service. We gathered that they were âlocals.â My son and his wife said that theyâve eaten here several times prior and had drastically different service and quality of food. Each of those times they had a younger guy working who was very pleasant and polite. They were excited for us to try this place when we were visiting from out of state, but were shocked and embarrassed on how bad our experience was. That was their last time ever eating at this restaurant, which is sad. Being newer to this area, they thought they had found a great place. And, they wouldâve been on their way to becoming âregulars.â I would give zero...
Read moreIt really pains me to write this review, but here goes. I've been going to Philly Originals for over 10 years now. Going back to when they were in the storefront right next to Jim Weyand's Barber Shop, maybe even closer to 15 years ago. However the experience I recently had at Philly Originals was so bad, I'll quite frankly never go back.
My wife and I walked in and ordered a large Pizza Steak (for me) and a large Tuna Salad sub (for her). We waited an average amount of time for our sandwiches and when they were given to us, my wife got half a sub and NOTHING was mentioned by the proprietor. They expected her to just eat half of what she ordered, and be happy with that. Nothing was said about it. Not "Sorry, we ran out of tuna salad, is there anything else we can get you?" Nothing.
When they noticed that we weren't happy due to getting half a sub and having nothing mentioned about it, they offered to "make it right" by offering a discount. Which when we got to the register, that discount amounted to ONE DOLLAR OFF, for an entire half a sandwich missing. Inexcusable.
They also specified that they simply couldn't make more tuna salad, because as anyone who has ever made tuna salad can tell you, it's one of the 7 hardest things you'll ever do, right behind getting married and moving into your first home.
I also have to get one other thing off my chest, what ever happened to the old bread rolls Philly Originals used? They were large, fluffy, and delicious. Now we get these small, stale-seeming Breadworks rolls that just don't stack up. And in case you're not familiar with Breadworks, it's what you get if you aren't willing to spring for Mancini's.
The disrespect we were shown here was second to none, and while I know this will not be a popular review since Philly Originals is a community staple, it needed to be posted. Don't fall back on your laurels Philly Originals, keep a focus on customer service and making great sandwiches. Because if our recent experience here was any indication, you're starting to lose your way.
2 out of 5 stars just because the sandwiches were still better than the garbage you'll get at Subway,...
Read moreThe only reason Iâm not giving zero stars is that we have loved this place for years and this issue is something that can be fixed . We usually order dinner late on Wednesday evenings -in the last three months we have had one disaster after another . The staff is consistently just a handful of very young guys -and while nice -there really seems to be a disconnect with how to make the food properly . We ordered a grilled chicken salad , got it home , it had chicken thrown in a container over lettuce ?!? No red potatoes , cheese , literally none of the ingredients typical of the salad . When we returned it they did contact someone who offered to give us cash out of the register . A few Wednesdays later we ordered our regular pizza steak with just meat , cheese and sauce . Got it home -no sauce !? Ok meat and cheese only is just a plain cheesesteak !? They were closed by the time we got home . A week later my husband ordered it over the weekend , told them about it , and they loaded the sandwich and it was made to perfection . JUST did another Wednesday , checked it at the store , and AGAIN there was just meat and cheese on the PIZZA steak ? When I ordered I explained it again . He said âthereâs sauce mixed in there â-I nicely said we have ordered this multiple times and this looks nothing like it . He gave me a side of sauce but that doesnât taste anything like when itâs mixed on the grill . If by chance you are taking supervisory or more season staff to help open your second location in Ambridge, that will come back to bite you in the end. Your restaurant is an anchor in our sweet little town and we will continue to patronize it in the hopes that some of these issues can be corrected. If theyâre not , sadly we will have to do our Wednesday takeout elsewhere . We appreciate the chance...
