I really wanted to like this place. I am from Chicago, and worked at bars in Wrigleyville and all over the north side. We came here for the first time months ago - me, my husband and his dad. It was slow season and the bar was empty, but we sat at a table for 10 minutes without anyone bringing us menus or greeting us, and decided to leave. Tonight we tried to give the bar a second chance. We arrived just after 8 pm.
We were seated at a high top in the bar area for 7-8 minutes before we were brought menus by the bartender. Totally fine. She took our drink orders, brought those out and took our order for dinner. We ordered a house salad, a BLT, a crispy chicken sandwich and an order of chicken tenders. This couldn't have been later than 8:20 PM.
Around 9 or shortly after, once most of the bar had cleared out, another employee (not the bartender who took our order) informed us that the order did not print back to the kitchen when it was placed for some reason. At this point, we had been sitting for 40 minutes minimum with no food. She said they were working on our order, but gave no indication of when the food would be prepared. After another 10 minutes our table still had none of the food. At this point, my father-in-law no longer has an appetite. It's getting late for him to eat at this stage. We had finished our drinks (which were just under half full when we were told our order had not been working). So I approached the bar to ask about the status of our order.
The bartender seemed to avoid me, but the second employee came over. I explained that we'd been waiting a while, and my father-in-law had lost his appetite. Before I could ask if our food was close to done so maybe we could take it to go, she asked if we wanted the food or not. Based on her demeanor, she had zero sympathy for our situation. There was no apology, no offer to take something off our bill, or our next visit. So we decided to just pay for our drinks and leave. She gave me the bill, I paid and tipped 20%. We won't be going back. Can't rate the food since we...

When we arrived, the server apologized that they had no menus. None. In the whole restaurant. 2 minutes later we see the table next to who JUST arrived receive some. (Okay... that's weird, but oh well) 20 minutes later we asked the table next to us for theirs, and we look over the menu. Still had to ask for a beer menu, which came several minutes later. Oh well.
I place my order and get a trio of shrimp, ribs, and bbq chicken. At this point, the table next to us had already sat down, ordered, eaten, AND paid their check. Then my beer arrived after having sat down for 45 minutes.
About 20 minutes after ordering, my waitress came to let me know that they don't have any ribs. No ribs. None. No ribs, which she knew when she took the order. So she asked me what I'd like instead. I asked to just reduce the price of the bill and give us the chicken and shrimp instead.
Well... even that was still too much for this server of ours. She instead returned with the food and said, "We just gave you a bunch more shrimp instead" -I look at my plate. There's 11 shrimp, and the bbq chicken is a dry chicken breast covered in shredded cheese and weak bbq sauce.
I had 1 bite. Ate the shrimp (which was pretty tasty) and finished my beer.
Tldr: food took 1hr20min and was mediocre at best. Our server had no idea what good service should look like, and still charged us the full price....
Read moreNow I’ve been to this place more than a handful of times, and I can honestly say that it is one of the best atmospheres that I’ve been in outside of Chicago when it comes to showing love for the Cubs. Aside from natural occurrences that happen inside of a bar/grill to be honestly transparent, This place is worth your time and money!! The owner Tom he is one of the most personable guys I’ve ever met and I’m happy to be a patron of this establishment especially since I’ve moved from Chicago three years ago. It’s nice to have a slice at home in Michigan the entire staff and the regulars that go there are hilarious, they treat you like family, and I’m proud to call myself a fan of Getaway Cubbie bar. I recommend going to this place for Any one of the specials that happens throughout the week and honestly, the whole menu is fire!!. I urge caution though however if you’re in a time crunch and don’t want to run into a full dining room, come early. The nightly events that go on make it so much fun to be there!! From trivia night to boom Box bingo, cornhole tournaments with a prize for the winners at the end and let’s not forget to mention the Kareoke every Friday with interchanging hosts every week. There’s literally no Kareoke around to sing and have fun and unwind a little and this place is the SPOT to get your Kareoke on!! Singing starts at 10. Saturdays are usually some sort of live entertainment. Weather permitting the bands play out on the nice patio with quite a decorative mural paying homage to some iconic Chicago, familiars i.e., Harry Carey, Ferris...
