We made reservations here to celebrate my goddaughter’s 21st birthday. Our reservation was made for 7p Saturday, we arrived a little earlier and were seated by the hostess at approximately 6:55p. We proceeded to chat for a while awaiting our server. We continued to chat….still no server. We continued to wait. No acknowledgment, nobody indicating something to the effect…”I’ll be right with you”.
Finally the hostess came over and asked if the server had been to our table yet. We said no, she then stated she would track the server down and bring her over. So we waited some more. At this time, it was going on over 15 minutes since we were sat by the hostess. No acknowledgement, no drinks, no nothing. I finally had to flag down a busboy to get waters for our table. After we received the water, another 5 minutes went by and I again went up to the hostess complaining that nobody has been to our table. She apologized and made the excuse they were very busy and understaffed (I’m sorry but that is an unacceptable answer).
Finally after a second time chatting with the hostess, our server showed up. We proceeded to order appetizers and a round of drinks. The appetizers came out and were very good, we had the meatballs and a wedding soup. Unfortunately, the drinks didn’t make their way out until well after we finished the appetizers. By this time, I estimated we had been seated in the restaurant for over 30 minutes without any drinks other than water from the busboy.
Mind you it was a little busy being that it was Saturday night, but I do not recall every table being full in the dining room area. It appeared there were a total of 3 servers but Nobody was moving fast. No smile, , no hustle, no nothing.
The entrees ended up being very good. I had the chicken Marsala and would not hesitate to order it again if I had the chance.
The problem though was the service. Frankly it sucked! It’s amazing how poor service can ruin a meal just as easily as sub-par food. This is the first time I’ve ever gone to this restaurant, I’ve always wanted to try it as I live very close by in North Royalton. But frankly after this, I would be way more inclined to go back to D’Agnese’s (right across the street) where I know I will get great service and great food.
I ended up tipping the server well under my standard 20% minimum. I hate doing that, I’ve been in the service business myself and I know how hard the job can be. But I’m sorry, a good tip was not warranted and I’m not leaving a good tip after crappy service.
I may try the place again and just sit at the bar….but frankly it will not be high on the list...
Read moreTook my nieces for their first high tea this past Friday at the Broadview Hts location. It was lovely for the most part. The tea we chose was scrumptious and the food items were very good although there were way more sweets than savory items on the tray. It's too bad that there is no choice at all in what you get on your tray. You get what you get, but luckily it was mostly all delicious. Our huge, huge, huge disappointment was with the Macaron! It was an awful, icky sweet fail. We could barely swallow the bite we took to taste it. Even my nieces could not eat it. The place is called the Macaron tea room & the Macaron was the worst part of the experience. I did let the server know and she said she'd let the kitchen know & she gave a weak apology and stated that sometimes the baker likes to experiment with new flavors. No offer to replace it with a different flavor or anything. I had a real problem with that and I did mention it again when we were standing at the bakery section looking at all the other Macarons in the case. I had fully intended on leaving there with at least two dozen Macarons (which would have cost me @ $76), but after no offer to make things right with my one small dislike, I left without spending another penny and unfortunately, I will not go back. I told the server that it was a huge business mistake for the owner not to make this right and make sure we were completely satisfied. Their high tea is $54/per person. That's expensive for tea and some tiny finger sandwiches and sample sized desserts plus a horrible Macaron. Obviously this owner has no interest in making sure the customers leave satisfied. Months ago, I couldn't get a reservation the week that I wanted. This day, the place was empty! Perhaps that's a sign of others having some satisfaction issues as well. I'll give them a 4 because the remainder of the tray was all good and the tea itself was delightful. The server was sweet and she...
Read moreMy experience was terrible here in Broadview Heights. My partner and I came here for my birthday. The hostess seemed annoyed that I didn’t have a reservation, though the place was emptier than a U2 concert. Then, she stated we could only get High or Afternoon tea when I wanted to do a shared high tea. I didn’t question it, and said we wanted to do ONE high tea.
Then, she sat us behind a family which consisted of a mother and two young daughters who had no manners or a care for others around them. It’s basic restaurant knowledge to not sit a couple next to a family. This made us uncomfortable and very unwanted. The little girls kept bumping my partner’s chair which disgruntled him.
The high tea was very nicely presented, but we were confused why we received two pots of tea. The tea was great as usual, but it felt like we only got half of what you’d normally get in a pot. I thought they were splitting the teas, which I did not question.
Then here’s the kicker: I was charged $90 before tax for TWO high teas when I said we wanted ONE. After tax, it was $115. A $25 tax? It’s sounds like the two employees added a tip for themselves. We didn’t want to question it or “cause a scene” due to being the only African American couple inside. I paid the bill, and I would always leave a generous tip at the woodmere location, but Broadview would miss out due to overcharging us.
It’s sad since I only go to the woodmere one, and they have better service and attitudes unlike Broadview. I felt a lot of unwelcoming vibes from the BVH hostess. Maybe I was overcharged so they can get a tip since they’re only open for two days.
Since there’s reviews of the owner apparently being openly racist, I’m going to stop supporting this business altogether. With how rude the entire family is, they’ll be out of business before...
