Visited here a couple times now and have mixed feelings. I love that it's a large place with plenty of places to sit, easy and well-lit parking, and that they're open late. The atmosphere is very quiet and calm and decorations are almost stark. It would be nicer if the room was beautiful instead of a blank canvas. So many empty walls that need some sort of artwork and not just the rough stucco from the previous El Chico. I've been during lunch on the weekend and in the evening and both times it has been not busy at all. Everyone who works here has been very nice.
The brownie was delicious and soft and chocolatey, but the sugar cookie bar tasted like flour and was the consistency of cookie dough. The paninis are fine but very small and don't even come with a side. For the price you could get much more food of the same caliber at Jason's Deli and leave feeling actually full. The coffee drinks are very sweet and tasty, not burnt and bitter like at Double Shot or Laurannae, but served hotter than the surface of the sun. Takes a good 10-15 minutes for it to cool down enough to taste. The coffee also only comes in one size and that's larger than what I would like (16 oz). I wish there was a smaller, cheaper option for when you want a sweet drink but not have to portion it out over two days.
The market area is local handmade things, mostly the same as what you see at the Rose District Farmer's Market in the summer, including local meat and dairy.
The kid's play area is more aesthetic than it is actually for kids to enjoy, not that they wouldn't still enjoy it. It's a few wooden playhouses pushed together with some fake food. Good for pictures but I'm not sure how long that will last. There are also a few board games you can play.
I'd go back if I wanted to spend some time with a group of friends outside my home and not necessarily for the food--probably won't order lunch there again unless prices drastically drop. If they want to be a local hub and meeting spot, I'd like to see a larger menu (also post the menu on the wall where people can see it) with some shareable group dishes (chips and dip, charcuterie, assorted mini cupcakes, coffee flights, etc.).
Like the other reviews mentioned I really hope this place succeeds because it's a great concept, they just need to improve the food quality and amount offered for the price. For two people I spent over $40, and only one of us got coffee.
Great place for meetings, studying, and when you want a quiet spot out...
Read moreWe decided to try this restaurant in Broken Arrow with a group of friends. There seemed to be only one table big enough for our group and it was occupied by a group of 2 or 3 so we had make due with a couple of smaller tables. I got the Chicken +Corn + Avacado soup and a side salad. The soup part had a good flavor but it was not very warm. It also had giant chunks of chicken making it hard to eat. Some of the chicken tasted weird so I just tried to eat the soup part but there wasn't very much of it. I was not impressed with my side salad either. On the positive side, it was big for a side salad and it was topped with 2 cucumber slices and two tomato slices. I believe the salad was Spring Mix and was mostly Oak Leaf lettuce. I did see one piece of spinach. I chose ranch for my dressing and it was ok but the worst part was they gave it to me in the tiniest cup I have ever seen. I think I could have asked more dressing but I didn't bother because I did not like the lettuce. The best part of my meal was a slice of housemate bread with garlic butter. I also had the housemade pomegranate blueberry soda. It wasn't super flavorful but it was good. I would not pay $4 for it again though. Some things that people in my group got and said were good were the turkey avacado panini and the sugar cookie latte. One person in my group got a chocolate chip cookie and I tried it and thought it was delicious! I gave service 3 stars because you just go through a line to order and they call your name or ring your buzzer when your food is ready and you go thw counter to pick it up. I asked for silverware and was pointed to a counter where I found plastic silverware which I didn't really like. It is not easy to eat a salad with a plastic fork. I gave it 3 stars for atmosphere because although it was cute and we went on a Friday evening, there were tons of little kids. They have a play area but the kids seemed to be running wild, climbing on a step structure near the play area, swinging the hanging planters at the top and throwing toys (possibly from the play area) off the top of ths structure. I know this is more of a comment on parenting but it made it hard to enjoy my friends company and should be considered when you are looking for a place to hang out with adults. I will give it a second chance but try something different. I also enjoyed the the store with locally products. For some items it was difficult to find the...
Read moreMy expectation for a good cup of coffee is very realistic and minimal. The cup of liquid should have a detectable coffee flavor. If it is a mocha both coffee and chocolate flavors should be distinct. And lastly if it is a hot drink it should be…..hot. A low threshold of acceptability that a third grader can achieve with a jar of instant Folgers, a bottle of Hershey’s, a small amount of milk and a counter top microwave. Unfortunately, Handmade failed in all areas. I ordered a mocha; my wife ordered a cappuccino and a big square of sugar cookie. I didn’t see anything in the pastry case that looked appealing, so I went with an egg and bacon panini. We were given a pager. The staff never used it; we were never paged. I watched the counter. Two coffees were put out with my name on the cups. I walked up grabbed them and headed back to the table. One cup said mocha the other drip. My wife clearly ordered a cappuccino. I tasted of the mocha. No flavor. My wife tasted both cups. She said take the lids off and let’s see if there is a difference. Not a cappuccino, but pale tasteless drip coffee with too much milk. My mocha was only slightly darker. Two large cups of flavorless warm milk. My wife chose to go get a bottle of water. I continued to watch the counter for the food. Two items were placed out that looked to be our order. No page notification and no one at the counter. Terrible service. But Handmade. The chunk of sugar cookie was nothing special. PTA bake sale quality. The panini was made with a preformed egg disk, three micro thin slices of precooked bacon, toasted in a panini maker. Handmade. While my wife had a few more bites of the cookie, I Googled other coffee shops in Broken Arrow. I still wanted a cup of coffee. Rise and Grind on Main St. popped up. We left two full cups of coffee and half of the cookie on the table. I ate the convenience store quality Handmade $7 panini. I was hungry. The coffee is absolutely not recommended. The pastries are meh and the selection is limited. However, it might be a good place to bring the kids, get them all sugared up and then drop them off...
