Made it over to Broken Arrow today and went to Tandoori Guys for some Indian food.
Great food, nice homey atmosphere and really nice people.
Inside the place is fairly dimly lit, but in a cool kinda way. Walls are covered with vibrant prints and the dining room is spacious and roomy. Even at 12:15 or so I was seated immediately by a welcoming, congenial gentleman I assumed is the manager or owner.
First trip through the buffet line, saw me dishing up samples of Chicken Biryani, Tikka Masala, Tandoori Chicken, Chicken Karahi and Aloo BIndhi (a killer dish of potatoes, okra and tomatoes).
FIrst off, the plates are a tad on the small side... which is fine, just wanted to get that out there so when I you see the "for my THIRD TRIP", you don't judge.... much.
Everything on the first plate was awesome. The chicken Karahi was great, but kind of like crab legs... lots of work for little meat. Not sure how those are prepared, but the meat to bone ratio pretty small. Still, all was good.
Second trip, I hit the stuff I didn't get the first time, which included the beef meatballs (Kofta, I think they were called), a couple pieces of tandoori chicken, a few of the veg Bondas (little dumpling balls), a little more Biryani, and some of another rice dish with fried vegetables in it, which was outstanding.
Third trip (I warned you) was just for a little more Biryani and meatballs.
Overall, there wasn't a single thing I didn't like. Some more than others, but all was good. The Biryani was an obvious favorite. The Tandoori chicken was still moist and tender, despite the buffet setting. The meatballs were another favorite.... those things were like little meaty balls of crack, I couldn't get enough.
While I wouldn't consider the food overly spicy, I do think that someone with a mild palate might find it a little much. My nose was definitely active the entire meal, and my taste buds were dancing like crazy. The staff were out of this world friendly and the owner/manager kept my glass full at all times, which was appreciated.
The tab ran to just over $17 before a gratuity, which I consider more than reasonable for what I had and how much I enjoyed it.
While it's a fair bit off my beaten path, I expect to find myself in BA on Fridays for the conceivable future, so I plan on return...
Read moreHELLO again readers! It's Red's reviews here with another quality review. As we all know I don't give out 5 star reviews to any old restaurant unless they are truely exceptional. So! Tandoori guys, lovely but unassuming store front reveals a true taste of India with a full service buffet (even a vegan night every Thursday night) and a full menu of tried and true Indian delicacies and some I'd never heard of. Our waitress was quite new and had obviously not been there very long, but her service was amazing. A true trade mark of food quality, sometimes the chef who prepared your meal will bring your food to you though rarely. Our compliments to you sir! You should truely be proud. Now, the decorations were not over the top but were just enough, revealing the cultural heritage behind the wonderful smells emanating from the kitchen. I truely enjoyed letting my eyes wander over the richness and taste of the decorations. Very clean place, and very well laid out use of the space they had. And finally, the food. I partook of the lamb vindaloo (spicey) as a true lover of spicy food let me tell you that it was incredible. The flavors of the lamb and vindalloo blended so perfectly with the spice (which was very spicey) while not ruining the hints of the spices and seasonings used to create the dish. My wife had the Tikka Marsala because as she said," if they cant do the simplest curry, then I won't come back." I tried this dish and it was absolutely flawless, truely the best I had eaten in Oklahoma. So! I grant my 5 stars to this restaurant for a truely great meal. This is the first 5 star review of 2022. In 2021 only 1 restaurant made the cut out of many. This place is so far and without doubt the best in oklahoma. So! As always thank you for the meal tandoori guys, you will see me again, and next time I'm...
Read moreTwo friends and I went on their "Vegan Buffet" Thursday. Probably not the best time for us to order off the menu but one of my friends has a low chili threshold, so the buffet was not a good idea for us. We ordered the Tandoori chicken, chicken tikka kebab and the spring rolls. I had assumed by the name of the restaurant that North Indian cuisine would be the restaurant's strong point. I wish I had read the framed article that mentioned the founders were from southeast India before we ordered.
Because the place was packed, the kitchen wasn't able to maintain the temperature of their tandoor and deep fryer. While the white meat of the chicken tikka kebab was thoroughly cooked, the tandoori chicken, which was mostly dark meat, was notably undercooked in the center in some pieces. The seasoning on both were good with my preference being for the tandoor chicken.
The spring rolls were mostly wrapper, very little filling and obviously fried at too low a temperature, since they were overly saturated with oil. They came accompanied with what tasted like an off-the-shelf sweet chili sauce. The restaurant was kind enough to give us some samosas, gratis, but they suffered the same frying temperature issue as the spring rolls. The accompanying mint(?) sauce was good but the tamarind sauce was better.
Surprisingly, for a place that boasts a tandoor , naan is not on the menu.
I would be willing to give this place another try on a night when the staff were not obviously overwhelmed but am not actively seeking the...
