Update: I’ve given Cutty’s another shot and reconsidered my previous stance. This time I ordered a honey mustard chicken sandwich with sauces on the side. The sandwich was quite good, with fresh, flavorful, and crunchy chicken. The other items I’ve had in the past are quite good too. I stand by my original comment that the chicken sandwiches with bbq ranch were far too sloppy and overwhelmed the sauce, so I recommend ordering the sauce on the side.
Original review: I stopped by for “Super Cluckin’ Sunday” and was excited to try the chicken sandwich. I love fried chicken sandwiches, but I was disappointed by this one. While the chicken itself was crunchy and flavorful, the sandwich was too heavily dressed in the “bbq ranch” sauce that comes standard. In both flavor and application it reminded me strongly of the Burger King burgers I stopped eating 20 years ago, not least of all because the flavor of the over-applied sauce overwhelmed the taste of the meat. It was especially tragic in this case because the sauce harmed the crunchiness of the chicken (even though our order was fresh when we ate it). The bun was good, but overall there was simply too much on the sandwich. I do not recall if there was an option to order it without sauce (orders currently must be placed online five days in advance), but I would definitely try...
Read moreI come here a lot since moving to the area two years ago and have had most of the breakfast and lunch items. Sandwiches taste great and are easy to eat and not overwhelming. They are well-balanced with high-quality ingredients and thoughtful flavor combinations. They have some creative vegetarian options as well (I love the broccoli rabe sandwich). I can share a sandwich, chips and a dessert with my husband and that is plenty, but I can also easily down an entire sandwich on my own with minimal regret. They offer fried chicken sandwiches once a month on a Sunday and they are pretty good. I have never had to wait in line for them but FYI I have seen the line go down the street and around the corner at times. They also sell baked goods including Texas-style kolaches which I have not seen anywhere else in the Boston area, but their baked goods tend to sell out early. It would be AMAZING if someday they offered a honey butter chicken biscuit sandwich, a la Whataburger. Please, Cutty's, make my...
Read moreThe Rabe sandwich was satisfactory. JFK's assassin will be unearthed before I understand why the Chicken sandwich has an air of exclusivity. The demographics of this area, I suppose, justify why this has a cult following--if you know soul food, this is not Fried chicken that deserves a waitlist. I ordered with lettuce only and had to add the French onion dip to experience any flavor, which really helped the bland chicken. My last experience was ordering $40 of delivery last week. 5 minutes prior to the delivery time I requested, the tracking was disabled. I called Cutty's and was told a driver had not been assigned...so it occurred to no one to call, while my food just sat there. And the woman didn't offer any resolution, apologies, just "there is no driver". Between Brookline Village, Washington square and Coolidge Corner, there are plenty of other restaurants that will exhibit care as to whether you receive your order or not and who have a better product, sans...
