Finally back at the 50’s Grill. It’s been YEARS since I’ve been here. I used to always get the veggie burger when I was a vegetarian. I still love it to this day. 🥲 it just needed to be seasoned a tiny bit more, but other than that. It was delicious. The bread was nice and soft. 😊 #50sgrill #brooklyncenter #mukbang #eatlocal #minnesota

Cool, old school diner. Served like a diner, but cooked home style. A few dishes remind me of grandmas cooking. The dishes are for the most part, exactly as you’d expect. Decent size portions, but not overwhelming. The true star is their cakes. The chocolate fudge cake everything you want in a rich indulgent treat. Moist and sweet, it’s like eating a hug. The bread that comes with meals is warm and soft, the perfect accompaniment to a cup of soup or to start your meal off. Pot pies are a solid option. Be warned, the pot pies are served in ramekins with a crust only on the top. They are good, but if you want a pot pie with a crust on the bottom, this is not it. On a similar note, the Irish cottage pie is served in a similar fashion, but instead of a a pastry crust top, it has mashed potatoes. Truly, hard to go wrong with anything on the menu.

My partner and I visited the 50’s grill like we always do when in Minneapolis. I personally have been frequenting the grill for 30+ years and always enjoy the visit and getting my favorite malt (strawberry & banana). I have taken family members and friends whenever I am down in the twin cities visiting. Unfortunately, on my last visit on Saturday the 15th of June 2024 on the way home (Canada) we had a very unpleasant experience interacting with the manager that day. I ordered my usual and my partner ordered her favorite malt (cookies and cream). We always eat/drink it from the container (stainless steel cup) instead of the glass, mine was not a problem, but my partners was only half full. When I brought this to the attention the manager, she told us (in no uncertain terms) that was the way it came, with the same amount of ice cream as I had and said that my malt was more because of the ingredients and that it has always been that way. I mentioned that the last few times we have visited, the cookies and cream malt was the same size as my malt, but she was indignant and dismissive of our enquiry about the malt size, that we were wrong and made no attempt to show any empathy, acknowledge or find a solution to our problem. Her follow up was nonexistent and abruptly left us to accept her decision. It may seem a small problem to deal with and we accept the answer, but not the manner in which it was dealt with. I wasn’t dissatisfied with the malts or waitress service, we weren’t aggressive in any way, in fact the waitress apologized when we were leaving and remembered us from our previous visit in February. I can’t remember the managers name, but it sounded like it started with an S or a Z. Note: I would have liked to have emailed this privately and dealt with internally but could not find an...

My name is Brian and I am the manager of the 50s Grill. I am responding to a review from Stewart Knoll. Thank you for your review and you have every right to express your thoughts. I also have rights to respond. My name is being used. I would like to share my view.

I remember this incident clearly it was mid afternoon and I had just returned to the Grill, which I have managed since day 1, 35 years ago. I was returning from the bank and I walked in and the phone was ringing. I picked up the phone and said Hello, 50s Grill, I got an earful that went like this. "Extra pickles requested means more then 4". I had no idea what was happening so I said I'm sorry, can you fill me in a bit? I heard the same response...I apologized and said I will run back to kitchen and grab some more... I will run them out to you. If I hung up on you I am sorry. My thought was to get you your pickles while you are still here and.your burger is hot.

I ran out in lot with pickles. Nobody there. Phone rings, I answer and I get an earful again. Obviously this person was mad. My team blew it on the amount of pickles they gave you but you thought you were talking to the guy who ran your food out.

You were talking to someone that was just by the phone. I apologize that my team failed to give you enough pickles. We blew it.

As stated I have managed that place since day 1. I have a lot of pride in that. I just felt like I had to respond to a speculation from an angry guest that used my name. There are 2 sides to most stories....

I'm going to give it 3 stars, they were training a new person, they were kind, but a few things stood out.

  1. The actual food was fantastic. I'd give it 5 stars on this alone.
  2. When I got my salad, it had honey instead of a dressing, when I got the dressing it was a weird 50s style balsamic vinegrette, which I didnt know was a thing in 2 bottles, so thats on me, but the honey is on them, and I forgive them for that
  3. They lost our order. People around us got their food before us, they had to come apologize and take our orders again to get our food made. We were on a bit of a crunch to go downtown and hangout, so we skipped hanging out and went straight to the play we were headed to
  4. The burgers cooking style was flipped, my wife likes it medium, mine medium-well. This was a slight thing, will ignore

Honestly, I imagined theyd knock off the shake or something from the bill for the forgetting our order and replacing my dressing with honey.

Overall, pretty okay experience, good food, a bit high priced but worth the experience itself, servers were super kind but made a lot of mistakes (both the trainee and the trainer). I'd give it 3.5 if i could, but we will go back and try again in a month or...
