Icon Beauty is by far one of the best and most inclusive beauty supply stores in the Twin Cities. Every time I visit, I feel safe, valued, and heard. I’ve been shopping here since I was a teenager, and not once have I experienced profiling or been followed around while shopping. I’m always allowed to browse freely and enjoy my experience—even when I come in wearing a bonnet or with my hair half done.

The staff are welcoming, never judgmental, and extremely knowledgeable about all things hair. They genuinely know what they’re talking about and are always up to date on the latest trends. I especially appreciate that they keep products well-stocked and actually listen to their customers—when I once asked the owner’s son about carrying Freetress locs, he ordered them for the store, which meant a lot to me.

Recently, I had been to three different beauty supply stores looking for faux locs, and none of them had any good options—it was frustrating. But the moment I stepped into Icon Beauty’s new store, I immediately found a variety of new loc styles, including Freetress, and at a reasonable price. The store was clean, organized, and had a dedicated loc section, which I truly appreciated, especially as locs are becoming harder to find elsewhere. What I admire most about Icon Beauty is their integrity. Even after their store was destroyed during the George Floyd riots, they rebuilt without raising their prices or compromising their vision. That speaks volumes about their character and commitment to their community.
