I have often praised the food truck from this outfit their tacos are fantastic. That is why I found it so disheartening that the restaurant was a humongous letdown, and I had been very anxious to come to this place I felt totally let down. I paid $35 for a bowl of menudo and a carne asada platter plus 2 drinks. The me udo was mainly a bowl of watery soup very little meat and the bowl was only half full. My wife's carne asada was tasteless and bland, the beans were tasteless, the rice was a bright Orange color but no flavor. The guacamole tasted a bit funky like when you try to revive the old guac in your fridge from the day before by adding some type of weird spice. You would think that after a place charges you $35 for 2 meals and 2 drinks that they would at least give you or offer you a complimentary chips and salsa, this was not to be either I had the spent $3 for chips and salsa.. I will not be coming back to this restaurant I was totally let down, I am happy to say that their food truck their mobile truck over by 36 and Winnetka is fantastic I've never had a single complaint about them but this restaurant, you can...
Read moreI think it's possible we went there on a bad night but I had to leave a critical review because we went here based on all the glowing reviews. First of all, everyone in there waited about 20 minutes for their food. This was a mystery to us since there were 4 people working! One guy said he had a call-in order and had been in there waiting for at least 30 minutes. We both ordered dishes with roasted pork. The actual taste of the pork was really, really good so the first bite really did make up for the wait time. Unfortunately, we both started finding large pieces of gristle in the meat that we would have to pick out of our mouths. Gross! I can handle one piece in my food - hey, it happens - but multiple pieces? No! It totally ruins a dinner to have to be super careful when chewing. There was also a grease slick on the bottom of my plate when I finished. Again, I'm hoping we caught this place on a bad night, but I get queasy thinking about my meal now so I don't think I...
Read moreI was pleased to check this Mexican joint off my list. There is plenty of parking so no need to be on the lookout for a spot. I came here strictly for the tortas and ordered the Torta Cubana. This was my first time ever trying a torta, and I figured it was going to be good after reading the reviews. It was a busy sandwich with breaded steak, beans, hot dogs, jalapeños, lettuce, tomato, and avocado. With everything going on, you could still pick out each ingredient which I liked. The steak was just a little bit chewy and could've used more seasoning but otherwise I enjoyed it. The green sauce they served with the sandwich was what took it to the next level. I was looking for some more flavor and this did it for me. Although, if you ordered this sandwich with a slow cooked meat, it would probably be out of this world. Definitely a good spot to try out if you are...
