I have always loved the food from Kumori and still love it, but they lost me as their customer, in the Brownsville location, due to rude management as well as poor customer service. I was a “regular” that would order to-go weekly and often. Majority of the time I would place my orders to-go, but there was a few occasions that I would get it delivered. This time since it was a bit late, I decided to place it for delivery. I placed my order at 9:00 pm via UberEats one hour before closing, I saw through the app that it was assigned to someone, ready, and someone was already in the restaurant picking it up, or so I thought. It later said my order was being delayed because the order was not ready and it kept jumping from one delivery driver to another. When it finally got to someone again, the driver messaged me and told me the restaurant was closed. I had worked as a Hostess/To-Go at the same location, having been one of the veterans of that store, so I knew how everything worked. I told her even though the restaurant was closed she could still go pick up the order because when someone places an order prior to closing, they can’t leave until all the to-go orders are picked up. She asked me if I was certain because she didn’t want to make the drive, waste her gas, and then not be able to pick up the order. I assured her she’d be able to pick up the order. I tried calling Kumori so they could be aware of the situation, but they were no longer taking calls so I went through the “help” on UberEats to see if they would be able to communicate with them on my behalf, but whenever I put I was needing help due to the restaurant being closed it automatically cancelled my order and gave me the refund. I never wanted my order cancelled so since I knew how everything ran in Kumori, I thought since I placed the order back at 9 pm, they should have the food ready. I would just pay them in cash when I got there for the food since my order got cancelled. Since I didn’t live too far, I drove myself to Kumori to pick up the order because I really wanted the food. When I got to the restaurant it was about maybe 15 to 20 minutes after closing time. I was very hungry and wanted to eat. To my surprise the whole restaurant was dark, and it did not look like anyone was inside. I then saw two workers coming out of the restaurant in the back and they appeared to be ending their shift, so I asked them about my to-go order and they said there was not any to-go orders, that the to-go people had left a while back. When I was asking them for help, they were not much help, all they were telling me is that they don’t deal with that because they are “Servers” and did not work doing to-gos. They said I would just have to contact UberEats about it. I did make them aware that it was a big inconvenience on my end because I wanted my food. I even had asked them if they could make an exception for me and make the food and I would pay for it, since I had placed my order at 9 pm. Their response was that everyone had left and either way the kitchen would have been closed. They said since I ordered it through UberEats I would have to contact them about it, that they were not the ones to deal with in this situation. I contacted UberEats the next day and let them know about my situation and they told me I needed to get in contact with Kumori because it was Kumori that never had the order ready whenever there drivers were trying to pick up the order and that is what happened. I then contacted Kumori and I ended up speaking to the assistant manager, I believe. He then basically accused me of lying saying he knew I was lying because if there is any to-go orders they can’t leave until they’re picked up. I told him that there was two servers that I spoke with that would be able to confirm I had been there and spoken to them. He “claimed” that he was at restaurant till 11 pm that night. He asked me why no one had spoken to him about the situation so it could have been resolved that night. I told him the servers never mentioned that. Consequently, they lost...

We arrived at about 1:25pm. I had a movie starting right before 3:00pm, but did not think that it would be an issue because the my hotel and the theater were very close by. We're were greeted a few minutes later. At that point I ordered a water and stated that it was just for now, and that getting an alcoholic drink once I figured out what I wanted. My brother ordered a Coke and an appetizer. The server came back to bring the drinks and ask if we were ready to order. I asked for a few more minutes. He came back to take our order about 15 minutes later(1:50ish). He had a chicken teriyaki bowl and I had a sushi roll without the avocado. We also ordered sauces for our appetizer and a fork for my brother. A few minutes later, the appetizer came. No sauces, no fork. Finally got them about ten to fifteen minutes later. At this point I ordered an entree to go. I mentioned that it would be sitting in a box for awhile at my hotel before I ate it, so I requested no fried zucchini since it would get soggy. Next my brother's food came. Mine came about fifteen minutes after his. He was done by that point. We still waited for a while on my to go. When it arrived it had just carrots( cut about 1/8th inch thick and 1/2 inch of batter on them) and no other veggie. It also had avocado(I had already mentioned on my roll that I did not want avocado). When he finally came back to check on us(2:33pm) I mentioned this and asked for it to just be taken off. He stated that it would only take six minutes to remake. I grudgingly agreed. Fifteen minutes later I went to find him and asked again to just take it off, because I had a movie starting in minutes. I also informed him that this was one of only two days off that I get each month, so i could not just go at another time. He said okay. Ten minutes later he shows up with the food. I told him that I did not want it because my movie had already started and I no longer had time to drop it off at my hotel. I informed him that it was pointless for me to leave it in my truck because of the heat and it being seafood. He then tells me that he will get someone to talk to me. He came back around five minutes later and let me know that there was no one available to either take it off of my ticket or to talk to me. I ended up just getting the total from him without it. This meant that he could not give me a receipt for the correct amount which I WOULD HAVE gotten reimbursed for by work. I then went to the theater where I discovered that I missed the beginning of the movie. I just left (even more aggrevated)because of this. Long story short... My lunch kind of sucked, I am still going to have to go and get dinner later, I paid for two tickets to a movie I didn't see, and the plans for one of my two days off this month were...

Went to Kumori on 09/23/2021 @ 6:20 PM with my GF.

I have worked in the food and hospitality industry for several years so I believe I am fair when it comes to reviews.I will only review if the experience has been terrible or if it’s been great. In this case the experience was absolutely dreadful. Probably top worst dining experience.

For starters, upon entering the restaurant it just smelled dirty and unsanitary. Like the smell of dirty washcloths that have repeatedly wipe down the used tables and not changed out.

We were told that the water was no good so I agreed to a bottle of water which was overpriced. We saw other tables getting cups of water but for some reason mine and a couple other tables were talked into buying bottled water. - Cool no big deal.

My GF had ordered an alcoholic drink. Our server came to us with a drink and told us that the bartender told him that somehow this was all wrong. The drink she requested did not match the menu item. (They had got the menu item wrong on the website) My gf being the chill person she is just said it was ok and that she would just drink the drink that was brought to her. This was about 30 minutes deep.

We ordered an appetizer. Appetizer showed up 45 mins later and we were asked to order our main entrees without our appetizer ever reaching our table first. By this time I was pretty much over it all but my gf talked me into just ordering and eating since we been there for so long. We ordered 2 sushi rolls and a bowl. We sat there and talked and observed all the other tables that came in after us all received their entrées their appetizers and drinks. Our server was in the weeds.

The appetizer arrived 45 mins later. The chicken tender that was chopped up was luke warm, the edamame seemed old and tasted microwaved.

Our main entrees never hit the table. 1hr 10 mins I went up to the manager and asked for my check for the app and bottled water and drink. He did not say a word. He did not apologize or say anything. Our server blamed the rush. There appear to be no communication between the manager and the...

Never fails. Horrible service every. Single. Time. They take forever to answer the phone and they admit that they sometimes silence the phones so they won’t get more orders around closing time. They say the order wait for curbside is 45 minutes and make you wait one hour and a half for cold soggy food that is stuck together and burnt! I am not making this up. And that’s because I called more than once to tell them I’m outside waiting for my food. They keep responding with “oh we are waiting for half your order…” yet I only ordered one roll and a side of Yakisoba with a drink about 2 hours ago. By the time I receive my order the drink it is already watered down the ice is completely melted so there is no ice in my drink. Horrible overall experience and I like to give them the benefit of the doubt that they will change after waiting along time to go back but nope. Same service…it’s ridiculous!

I recently had the pleasure of dining at Kumori Sushi & Teppanyaki in Brownsville, Texas, and I was impressed by the delicious sushi and teppanyaki options. The sushi was fresh and expertly prepared, with a wide variety of options to choose from. I particularly enjoyed the spicy tuna roll and the California roll, both of which were flavorful and well-made. However, the one area where Kumori fell short was in the atmosphere. The restaurant itself was a bit bland and lacking in decor, which made it feel more like a casual, quick-service spot rather than a sit-down restaurant. Overall, I would recommend Kumori Sushi & Teppanyaki to anyone looking for good sushi and teppanyaki in Brownsville. While the atmosphere may be lacking, the food is definitely worth trying. Tip: Try the spicy tuna roll and the chicken teppanyaki - they're both delicious!

Upon arrival to Kumori there was no host nor greeter. Waited about 5 minutes before I could get the attention of a server and asked if I can take a seat anywhere or if I had to wait to be seated. I was asked to wait to be seated. After waiting for another 5 minutes to be seated a couple walked in and sat down at the first table they saw. I had to call another server to ask if I was gonna get seated or not. She politely apologized and cleaned a table for us and took our order. Food took a while but came out as ordered. We ordered fried calamari as an appetizer it was not the greatest. We also tried the omega roll in my opinion it was delicious and the salmon fire roll which I probably wouldn't order again as per my liking. I hope to visit again and hope for a better experience.
