We have arrived 23 of October and asked at the front desk if the shuttle could take me to the airport at 4:30am and they said yes. I again asked the night before I left if they will still be able to take my party to the airport by shuttle and said that it would not be a problem and that they would be ready by that time. The morning of my check out, I called the front desk to ensure once again if the shuttle would be able to take my party to the airport. They once again ensured me that they are ready to take us to the airport. When I went downstairs to get into the shuttle to leave to the airport, they helped us load the shuttle with our luggage and we had sat down ready to leave. As someone who is disabled, it was very difficult for me to go in because of the height of the van. It was a struggle in of itself to load everything and get settled in to the van. The driver then came in and said that they were not going to take us, kicked us out of the van, and said it was his day off and he already had plans to take someone already. He said to my party, “call a taxi, do whatever you want, i don't care. Its my day off.” After they kicked us out, i felt discriminated due to me being hispanic and disabled and didn't want to struggle with disabled people. It gave Marriott a negative reputation. Once i mentioned that I felt discriminated, he then said “whatever. I guess i can take you. Get in then.” I also can include the video of the incident that happened. When i advised him i am recording because i felt discriminated, he laughed and stated “i dont care. You can call and let whoever you want know”. Ive been using Marriott for many years in many different places. However, this time, it definitely made me rethink coming back to a Marriott or recommending a Marriott to...
Read moreThis is my second review, yes, but I stayed again recently. The quality and ambience of the customer service you receive at this property hasn't changed - still stellar and unmatched in the vicinity. They are never rude, always friendly and willing to help you if the can. This is one of the things that makes this hotel stick out. The rooms are always very clean and don't make you feel "cringy" when you walk through the door. There are a myriad of restaurants nearby with a shopping mall on the other side of the Expressway. It's one of the best places to stay in Brownsville, I would say the second best is their sister property next door at the Courtyard. Even among the various Marriott's I have stayed in around the country, they rise and shine well above the rest in terms of just the way your are pleasantly and noticeably treated. If there was any cons to this place, it's just some of the rooms facing the Expressway have some noise level to them. I'm a pretty light sleeper is the only reason I mention it, if you are a light sleeper as well, request a room that faces away from the Expressway. Oh, and the breakfast! It's not just pastries and coffee. It's fresh eggs, sausage or some other meat and potatoes. The breakfast buffet stands well above anything else in the region. They also still have dinner served 3 nights per week, I think it's Monday-Wednesday. I've been there a few times when dinner was served and it's quite good. Even to the point of serving beer and wine and it's all complimentary. You won't be disappointed staying...
Read moreThe staff was very friendly and just overall wonderful for the most part. When the breakfast is available, it’s pretty good. Unfortunately this is where the good ends for me. The room cleanliness was a nightmare (I have several pictures that show this). I talked to the employee at the front desk and she offered to have someone come by to clean it while I was away (this was at check-in). I came back to my room later that night, and nothing had been done. There was still dried rice and bread on the kitchen floor. The living room had confetti and shiny discs from the people who stayed before me. While this is only a minor inconvenience, it just makes me question how clean the rest of the room was, and this is especially concerning with COVID still around. The bed had hairs in it and were caked with some kind of dirt or adhesive. I went back to the front desk to talk to another employee. He showed me another room I could transfer to, however, the bathroom and toilet had hairs all over, there was dirt and thick buildup all over the toilet seat and on the top of the toilet, so I opted to stay in the first room I was at but with a change of sheets and towels. The bed was horribly uncomfortable and was stabbing me in the back all night. It felt like a spring top mattress that was found on the side of the road, so sleep was a big issue. Lastly, the breakfast on Sunday ran out early, and there were no eggs, sausage, bagels, etc. only cereal or oatmeal. That doesn’t seem fair to this who paid for the breakfast or had it factored into the price...
