I eat here at least once a week with a group of colleagues. We ate at this restaurant on July 31, 2025, and I will never set foot in it again. I asked the cashier if I could pay with a 100.00 bill because I didn't have anything smaller. He was uncertain whether he could make change out of my cash. After he confirmed he could, there was a mistake in the transaction. He handed me my change for the meal, but he did not collect my 100.00 bill; he looked rather new to this place (as I mentioned, we come once a week) and confused. The cashier made a mistake and gave back change without accepting my form of payment, and I did not notice that either as I was engaged with conversation with my colleagues. If you eat here, you know you have to pay for your food at the register once you order. We also spent over an hour at the restaurant and ate lunch. It is clear that, upon counting the register, they realized their drawer was short. The owner reported this to the Bryan Police Department. They successfully reached out to one of my supervisor to establish contact with us. Out of all my coworkers, I was the only one on camera with cash on the counter. To sum it up, I was threatened with a charge of theft by deception. I spoke with the Bryan Police Department. I told them what happened, and they agreed to let me bring back what was owed. The owner confirmed that we are regulars who eat at their restaurant often, if that was the case, was it necessary to go to this extreme?
When I got there to drop off what was owed, the police were there, so I took a coworker with me because there was no way I'd go back alone.
I am upset that the owner did not contact me or my coworkers about the incident, even though they clearly had our contact information, hence the police call I got. She contacted the police and threatened to file charges against me when we eat there on a weekly basis. The owner admitted to knowingly doing this.
I will NEVER come back after this incident and differently would not recommend this...
Read moreAn American eatery that's pretty competent, and reasonably priced.
No table service though often the ... bartender? Will come by and ask if you'd like refills or something. Not really a bartender but they take your order and serve the drinks from behind a bar that no one sits at.
The food varies in its quality, when it's messed up it's usually on the overcooked side except with eggs, where it's the opposite. My fries and fried chicken often comes out this way, I'd say one thing is generally over or undercooked every other time I eat here, but the variety and particularly the corn bread pancakes and cheesey grits have me coming back. Breakfast and brunch is better quality on average than dinner. It, like all downtown, gets very busy on game weekends, but their speed in getting the food out is usually quite fast even during peak times.
Pet peeve, not alone to this restaurant, and many in downtown do this: You pay in advance, at the counter, and the final screen asks for a tip. So you are entirely tipping based on guilt, morales, and your ordering experience, which is a simple transaction like any you've had at best buy or whatever. It does not function as a service incentive. The counter staff in most downtown is typically women, usually pretty ones, and that doesn't seem to be a coincidence with the payment system. I'm curious if the tips go to all staff working at the time or just the counter staff? There isn't table service, and the prices aren't so low that they couldn't pay their employees fair wages. The prices are currently hiked 12% for covid supply issues, and I'd not mind another 12% if it meant fair wages. If the wages are already fair, remove the tip screen.
Overall, a recommended place downtown! Great to bring picky eaters who just want a burger while you might want something a little less vanilla, if cornbread or pulled pork are your game. Healthy options exist and...
Read moreAtmosphere: As we entered the establishment, they had decorations relating to both fall and Halloween. The picture frames on the wall was different but caught my attention and grew fond of it. The music in the background had a great selection and variety, but was also low enough to converse with your group but still had the ability to enjoy it. The atmosphere of the restaurant was very welcoming and the outdoor seating was a nice touch.
Service: Immediately upon entering, we were greeted by two people and asked if they could be of any assistance. While looking over the menu my fiance had some questions and the cashier was able to answer all her questions. When it came to my decision, I asked about The Morning After, being hesitant about the cornbread pancakes in the meal, a server that was nearby said although they were different they were savory and that it was highly recommended.
Quality: My fiance had the Bacon Bowl and overall it wasn't amazing but also wasn't bland. For the ingredients in the meal seemed like ordinary breakfast but just in bowl. However, I'm glad I chose The Morning After meal. I honestly wasn't sure what to think of the meal due to what all was in the meal, especially the cornbread pancakes. I expected to have some syrup due to having pancakes but they had so much flavor along with all the other ingredients. My fiance asked if she could have a bite and immediately said she should have gotten it. The amount of food was great but the quality of it made it stand out.
Would highly recommend this restaurant if your in the Downtown Bryan area and be sure to try The...
