I visited Rx Pizza in Bryan for the first time yesterday evening to celebrate my friend's 23rd birthday. It was a Friday night, and my boys and girls at Rx were absolutely slammed.
45 minutes was what I was quoted for a table for my party of about 10. They got my number and said they'd text me when my table was ready. We dipped out and got drinks at a nearby hotel until the table was ready.
Almost exactly 45 minutes is what it took to seat us. When we were situated at the table, the host actually handed each individual person a menu rather than handing one person a stack of them. I thought that was neat.
Our waitress killed it. I wish I could remember her name, but I was quite toasted before we even arrived. A note to the GM: Friday, Aug 30 the white girl with longish dark brown hair and a nose ring is a rockstar. She proficiently handled my party's food and drink orders, kept everyone's drinks topped off, and on top of all that, folded/rolled silverware and napkins in between actual service.
I ordered some fried mozzarella for the guys on my side of the table. The other end of the table got some dank tater tots loaded with pulled pork and other goodies. A man that I believe to be the actual pizza chef brought out the appetizers. I mentioned that I wanted to order some pork tots too, but we had a vegetarian in the party, so I ordered cheese instead. That guy came back out with a second plate of loaded tots for my side of the table, and said something with a weird drawl that I was way too drunk to understand, followed by, "In Louisiana, that's how we say 'a little extra.'" On top of that, before we left, he brought me another pizza to go. I'm assuming it was something extra they made by accident, but nevertheless, that chef absolutely hooked it the hell up.
The pizzas themselves were epic. I almost literally never eat carbs, so when I do it has to be something freakin' special. This was special. 14" diameter is the standard size. More than enough to feed 2 reasonable people or 1 drunk man. There's a pizza on the menu for all tastes, and you can build your own if you're a picky snowflake.
I'm finally going to get down to brass tacks here and give a rundown of what I ordered and what I paid.
2 orders of fried mozzarella 1 meat lovers type pizza that I'm sure had a clever name 1 margherita pizza with extra cheese 2 dos xx 2 waters 1 veggie pizza with beef on it -- free 1 order of pulled pork tots -- free
Cost me $56 and some change, plus a tip.
Dollar for dollar, it was absolutely worth it. I like to think I tipped pretty well, but the free stuff the chef hooked me up with absolutely had me come out on top on that deal. To be clear, it was worth it without the freebies.
The only downsides:
Couldn't call ahead for a table. Admittedly, I didn't make the call. Next time I will and doubt I'll have trouble locking down a table.
They make the crusts out in the open, visible to everyone. Kinda cool, but some of the guys working dough looked like they definitely didn't want to be there.
It's mighty warm in this establishment.
Had a good time....
Read moreI’ve had 2 poor experiences at this Bryan location within the past 5 months. Extremely poor service and management. The 1st time the server took our drink order, but never brought them out. He got 2 more tables & brought those drinks out. I had to chase him down to tell him what happened, over 25min after we first walked in, we got our drinks. A friend I was with could not eat pork due to religious beliefs, and made this clear when he asked for recommendations & ordered his food. 45min later we were served our pizzas, and his was covered in bacon. He had been fasting for 17hrs and he had ordered so carefully, so this was very disappointing. As the server had other tables, we waited for him to walk back by and check on us- never happened. Once again, I had to track him down. I could only find the hostess and asked her to send him over b/c he messed up. We were very upset, he ordered us another pizza and we waited another 30min. When our check came it was for the full price of our meal. I almost laughed after everything they put us threw. Our entire evening and mood had been ruined. When I pointed this out, the server offered 20% off. I was fuming at this point b/c I had to go find this server multiple times that night, and even stood at their bar and no staff that walked by asked me if I needed anything. Not even the manager or other servers that walked by. I told him that was equally insulting, he said we would have to talk to the manager then. The manager did not seem to care one bit, barely paid attention to what we told him happened and said it was 1st Friday and what could we expect, they were busy. I’ve been here on other 1st fridays, I used to go here with my family once a week, that service was not acceptable. He gave us a 50% discount, said it was the best he could do and left.
It took me 5 months to come back. Last night, we wanted to celebrate my bf’s birthday and since Rx pizza had been our favorite place at one point, we thought we would try it again. We walked in, sat down and were given menus. It was after 10pm and there were not that many people there. 4 tables and some people at the bar. Yet, it took 10min for someone to come by and ask for our drink order. Not wanting to ruin another night here, we left. Luckily we found a better place. it was cram packed, we got the last table and the bar was full. Within the 1st min we were there our server got our drink order. Within the 1st 5min we had placed our food order. That’s what good service is, even tho that place was full, the server was always attentive and available. Don’t waste your money at rx pizza, plenty of better options...
Read moreThis was our third visit. The first two times (busy Fridays), the food was great and the service was good. Tonight (Thursday—not busy) was another story. We were a party of 5 — 2 obvious couples and a single. We were shown to a table for 4 even though a larger table was open. They offered to bring another chair, but there was no room to comfortably put it. So we squeezed 3 onto the bench meant for 2. There were only 4 plates and sets of silverware—and a fifth was never brought. I helped myself to a 5th service from another table.
We ordered 3 pizzas—one for each couple and one for the single. The pizzas were brought out one at a time at 5+ minute intervals. By the time the third pizza came out, the first pizza served 10 minutes earlier was cold since we politely waited until everyone was served before eating.
To add further insult, two of the three pizzas were burned—obviously and noticeably burned. One so badly that the crusts weren’t edible. Since the food was so slow, we didn’t send either burned pizza back.
During our meal, our server came by once to check on us, then completely disappeared. She was hugging and chatting with friends seated at the bar. After waiting an extended time for our check, I want to the bar to interrupt her visit with friends so we could get our check and leave.
I checked with the pizza cook to confirm that the oven can hold more than one pizza at a time. One would think that all 3 pizzas would have been prepared then simultaneously placed in the oven that holds up to 8 pizzas at a time. That way, we could have all had hot pizzas.
