A classic speakeasy feeling with an offputting cover charge (CASH ONLY) that is slightly offset by reasonably priced, well made drinks. The room is like a long hallway, with one table seating and sets of couches with small tables between them. A musician plays at one end of the room and the bar is along one side in the middle. Check out the bar menu online before you go, but be aware they may not have what you see (-1 star for being unable to make a Mai Tai.. pretty classic drink). $10 per person cover charge just to enter, which sucked for us because we had people who weren't even drinking. Cocktail drinks average $10 each, which is quite reasonable for a speakeasy. They are made well, with slight variants on traditional recipes. My Sazarac was a little light (slightly too heavy on the bitters) and my Vieux Carre too sweet. But overall, I was delighted that they banned smoking (many reviews mention cigar smoke which is still faintly in the air but no longer permitted) and the atmosphere was great to spend a date or an hour or two with friends if you can justify the cover charge. The place was packed on a Friday night before an A&M home game and it took well over 10-15 minutes to wait for...

Yes, it's on theme, but this isn't the 1920s and I've come to enjoy being able to go out without coming home smelling of smoke.
The band that was there that night was alright, but it wasn't a jazz band. Maybe there are jazz bands sometimes. I would have preferred that.
I love the owner's other places, and will continue to visit them; the guy has an eye for style and knows how to build a great bar. But this one maybe just isn't for me.
If you like cigars or at least don't mind them, maybe it is YOUR kind of place, and in that case I do recommend checking it out. But I'm not going to tell you where to find it. That's...
Read moreWas staying at the La Salle hotel and read about this bar. We got in late from Santas Wonderland and wanted to go check it out. Originally we waited to see someone else go in because we were nervous about knocking haha, but when we didn’t see anyone we went ahead and knocked. The bar is really cool and the bartenders working were super nice. Got there just before closing unfortunately so we were only able to try one drink. Best whiskey sour I’ve ever had. Will stop in again when I’m...
