My teen daughter and I were in town to tour A&M. It had been a long hot day, and we were tired and hungry. Somewhere I had heard about this Longhorn Tavern's chicken fried steak, so we thought we'd give it a try. I did order the CFS, and my daughter ordered the 6oz sirloin steak with an add-on of some grilled shrimp. And I know it's practically sacrilege, but she ordered her steak Medium Well, cause she doesn't like to look at blood in her food. When our food came, my CFS looked fine, though I was not impressed with the home made French Fries - too soft for me. The taste was fine, nothing to rave about, but perfectly edible. My daughter's steak however, could not have been more than Medium Rare - at most. Totally pink inside with bloody juice on the plate. And that's what the grilled shrimp were sitting in. We did send the steak back, and our server, Callie, was very nice about it. When it came back about 2 minutes later (seriously, 2 minutes), the steak was no more cooked than when it left our table the first time. It looked like the cook had seared the ends where my daughter had cut apart the steak. We called this again to our servers attention, but by this time my daughter had pretty much lost her appetite and we did not ask for a different steak or anything. The server Callie had double checked her order and it was entered correctly. I guess the cook was just having a bad day, but geez, how hard is it to cook some meat just a little bit more? After taking the steak away, Callie did come back to let us know that she had talked to the owner, who decided not to charge us for the steak. While I did appreciate that (not that I was going to pay for it anyway), it would have gone a long way with me had the owner herself come to the table to discuss the situation. Hard to say what happened here, as other people from the area seemed to like this place. I just know we won't...
Read moreMy family (myself, my wife, my 5 year old and 2 year old) ate here for lunch on Saturday.
My son got a non-grilled cheese sandwich (yes, we asked them to leave it uncooked, and they did) with macaroni and cheese. He devoured the sandwich, did not like the macaroni and cheese (admittedly, when I tried it, it was more buttery macaroni than cheesy to me.)
My daughter got a cheeseburger sans pickles with macaroni and cheese. She liked the cheeseburger and the macaroni and cheese.
My wife got a 6 oz sirloin with sweet potato (she was disappointed it did not come with marshmallows, but said it was good either way.) She said the steak was good and the overall meal went over well.
I had the small 'Mad Cow', which is hamburger steak with jalapeños, cheese and bacon with a baked potato. The mad cow part was fantastic. The baked potato was slightly undercooked or perhaps it had cooled a bit too much - as it really did not melt the 'butter' (actually labeled as some sort of vegetable non-butter) or cheese that I put on it.
We did sit outside, too nice of a day not to take advantage; but this had the effect of missing salt + pepper (I went inside and stole from another table as we were not checked on very often - which was strange as it didn't become busy for 30 minutes or more after we got there) ... And when we did get our check and it came back for signature, the pen was out of ink (not complaining, can happen to anyone) but I finally had to borrow one from my wife when she came back from taking my son to the restroom (I didn't want to leave my daughter alone outside to go find a pen and she was still eating...)
Overall, the food was good, the service okay - given where we decided to eat at the restaurant and it wasn't my first or last trip to...
Read moreSo my brother is getting married. And wanted us to try this place cause they would like to have the rehearsal dinner here.
I walked in not knowing what to expect.
The staff is fun and pretty dang cool too. We ordered all sorts of things the Hotzerrala sticks were so good that I almost cried.
I said almost
The fried pickels seemed to be a hit with the rest of the table. And I wasn't a huge fan of the fried mushrroms. But if we could talk about the Hotzerrala sticks. Because that's what stole the appetizer show.
Next the food. I had the 32 Oz bone. A very solid option the corn. And the Mac n cheese.
Our amazing waitress recomended tossing some cheese on the top of the Mac and she was right! Great call
Drinks were always typed up it was a good time good food and the owner took the time to come chat with us about renting the space to the dinner. So we did! The joke was passed around the table that we should get like 10 of the Hotzerralas next time.
I think that's a must!
Any who, I'm off to do...
