Pepe's Mexican Café — Restaurant in Bryan

Heard about this place and how they were struggling so went to try and support local. Unfortunately we will not be going back. This was our first time and wow, to say we were disappointed is an understatement. Upon entering I would love to say that we were greeted, but we were in fact not, the girl actually seemed irritated that we walked in and that she had to interact with us. Again not ever having been there we were unsure of the ordering process but the girl assumed that we knew exactly what to do and she literally didn't say a word, so we had to explain to her that this was our first time and we needed a minute to look at the menu and some direction. To her benefit once we did explain that we were first-timers she did kind of open up a little bit more and was more helpful. Now to the food. I had the Pepe deluxe meal that came with a taco, cheese enchilada, beans, queso, and guacamole which was approx $12. My husband had the steak fajita dinner that had 2 tacos, rice and beans at approx $14 and both meals came with a little baggie of chips. Total cost was $30. I'll start with my husband's "steak" fajita tacos. The meat was literally gray, and my husband described it as worse than frozen in the bag meat you'd buy from the grocery store, he compared it to a TV dinner meat. My husband did not finish his food which is not a thing that happens lol. My food was literally not even recognizable as cheese enchiladas because everything was so smothered in chili sauce and they put my pinto beans in the same compartment as them so the bean juice and chili blended together and just disintegrated what was supposed to be enchiladas. Oh, that's another thing I should mention, everything is served as if you're ordering to go. The queso and guacamole both came in little tiny to go containers for condiments and the meal is served in a styrofoam to go container with the traditional 3 compartments, 1 large and two small compartments. I did not even eat my queso. Again this is unheard of. I love queso. I repeat I love queso and I did not eat what was given to me as queso. It definitely had a Velveeta and rotel-esque feel to it but honestly the cheese was not even as good as Velveeta. The texture was kind of gritty and separated and I'm sorry to say I just literally could not eat it because it tasted like milky tomatoes. Even the chips we received in our bags were stale. The guacamole was actually good, the rice was not. My taco, again not good. The ground beef in it literally had no flavor and seemed to just be existing. We took a few bites of each thing And that was all we could stomach. We threw everything away and then we left. If you're looking for fast and quick to-go chili cheese nachos or chili cheese anything this is the place for you, anything other than that I would not recommend, especially as a dining in experience. Editing* after reading reviews I probably wouldn't have visited because it seems any honest review is met with a defensive attitude by Kip who says he is the owner, so I'm sure I'll be getting a reply, but again I was trying to venture out and help support...

Worst eating place around town. My friend ordered his food first and on the same ticket I ordered a lunch special with two tacos and a drink and in the middle of me ordering some guy took over my order and when I finished and paid I was looking for my drink and told the guy what I ordered. instead of trying to fix a mistake that was not my fault he had an attitude right off. I got an attitude right back with him because I clearly stated in my order that I wanted the lunch special with 2 tacos and a drink. As I was eating he came to my table to show me a receipt that showed I didn’t pay for a lunch special just tacos and he gave me a free drink. I told him I didn’t want anything for free and tried to explain how my order wasn’t taken right and he interrupted me immediately as I started to talk. I interrupted him back trying to get my point across because the whole situation was stupid and he wouldn’t let me get not one word out as he was RUDE and unprofessional! He threatened me that if I kept getting loud he would ask me to leave. I gave him the money for my drink and told him as soon as he brings my change I was leaving. He threatened to call the police and I told him he didn’t have to because I would be gone before they came as soon as he brought my change and he said he’ll get my license plate # lol like I was scared. I told him I’ll be more than happy to call the police with you if that’s what you want. As I was walking to the register to get my change I told him I would never step foot in this eating place again and he told me he feels sorry for my employer (wow). This man is the most rude and unprofessional guy I know oh and his name is Wyatt according to a Pepe’s employee. To be treated as I did as a customer because my order was taken wrong is beyond ruthless. Never again! If I could rate no stars I would..does anyone want Pepe’s? I have a whole bag of food for you, I lost my appetite....

I never have tried this place and the one time I decide to it’s the most horrible experience I have encountered. My family and I have been sick with the flu for 4 days. So I have been ordering places that can either deliver or contactless pickup to aid from spreading the flu. I placed an order online from their website for 5 breakfast tacos and chips and queso. Everything go’s through, they charge my card give me an order number and confirmation. I pull up at the drive through and the lady is very rude telling me I need to cancel my order and choose something else cause they only offer breakfast tacos on Sunday's. ( I have never eaten here how am I supposed to know that when your website allows me to order). I informed her it has already charged my card and there is nothing allowing me to cancel the order. She said she doesn’t know how to do it and starts reading off her bosses # to me. This isn’t my problem this is the restaurants, your associates should be the one to assist the customer. I have no voice my throat hurts because I am still very sick and you make me call your boss that is not at the restaurant to try and resolve the issue. Very disappointed with the rude staff, unprofessionalism and lack of customer service resolving a problem. Still have not eaten here and never will try to again. I wish there was a zero...
