Atmosphere: Prior to entering, it looks like any other establishment located in the downtown Bryan, but once you step foot inside, it almost resembles a bagel shop from NYC. There is small section for dining in, as well as a refrigerator with a vast amount of beverage choices that range from local/out-of-state/commercial drinks. Making your way towards the back you will see the robust selection of bagels for your choosing and to your left a grill with a selection of various cheeses/spreads/meats. One item that I appreciated is the inclusion of other local business items that could be found for sale.
Service: Depending on when you go, your service will vary. I went on a Sunday with their new hours and there was a long line for both picking out food and paying. Mind you, I did go about 2 hours before closing. The line did move quickly and when it was time to order, I had to go for the highly rated Pastrami sandwich. I would say it took roughly 20 minutes to get it, but it was worth the wait. The person who assisted me in taking my order, was also the cashier, which made me realize as to why there were both long lines, but overall apologetic and nice to every customer.
Quality: My order consisted of ordering a Pastrami sandwich on rye with both dressings (Russian and Mustard) on the side and Swiss cheese, coupled with Honey BBQ chips and Blueberry Lemonade Soda from Seattle. The flavor was so good, but I know now that I made the mistake by having the dressing on the side. The sandwich was so good and had a resemblance of a famous pastrami spot i went to in NYC, KATZ. The portions pretty good and could definitely be shared with someone, if you choose to be so kind. There were other items on the menu I wanted to try out, but those would be saved for a later day. Got any recommendations Zeitman's???
Fili's Fav: Although the bagels and Pastrami sandwich would be the main reason to go here, do yourself a favor and try the banana bread, you will...
Read moreI really want to love this place. The vibe and atmosphere is just right, but the food comes up short. I'm leaving this review on my third visit so I've given ample opportunity in case I came on a bad day.
This place is decorated with numerous awards for best sandwich shop and best bakery (although the selection of actual baked goods is very slim). I guess there just isn't much other competition in the BCS area, because the sandwiches here are not great. The Reuben I've tried had some of the toughest corned beef, and the rye bread was soft and almost wet, not toasted. The bagels were dry, and the cheesesteak sandwich was so dry and under-seasoned with so little cheese I couldn't help but chuckle.
If you've never had a good sandwich before, you might really enjoy this place, but otherwise you're better off getting a cheesesteak from Jersey Mike's (ouch), and I don't know if there's a better Reuben offering in town, but this one isn't it.
I grew up around proper Jewish delis, so I know my review sounds harsh, but there's so much potential here I just wish they really put in more care into their food.
Oh, and this place is listed as a grocery store in Google, but all they have are a few soft drinks, a paltry selection of baked goods, and a few bags of chips. It's just a...
Read moreI am so sad to write this review, but it’s time and I can no longer justify coming here. I am a local here in Bryan and have loved going here since they opened, and I also LOVE supporting small businesses - the owner is a really nice guy. My husband and I have fallen in love with their chopped cheese to the point we used to come weekly, but because of the price raises over the years we have made it a special occasion (once every few months) thing. Im all for paying extra for the small guy, and the value of the sandwich was well worth the $9 it started at, maybe even when it was $10. But coming in today to pay $30 for two sandwiches is outrageous, let alone the pricing of everything else on the menu now. I don’t even feel comfortable trying other things from here because the pricing just doesn’t make sense. Unfortunately I will be learning how to make my own chopped cheese and our days of coming here are over. I understand as a fellow business owner that things are expensive, but at this rate I don’t see this place having the raving support it did when it first opened, as this just seems like price gauging and is not worth the value. Keep your pricing fair please! Id hate to see this...
