I was excited to try Brothers, but the excitement faded when we walked in and the greeter ask if it was for 2 and walked us to a table. The greeter/waiter asked if we needed a moment to view the menu or did we already know what we wanted. I told her we needed a minute to view the menu. While reviewing the menu she brought us water and asked if we were ready to order. We were ready and ordered Lemon Pepper Wings for the appetizer, and then the Cajun Salmon Pasta and Oxtails, Mac & Cheese, and Green Beans for our entrees.
The waiter never told us her name, and never asked if we wanted anything else to drink. (Sigh)
We did not fuss. We figure the waiter may be having a bad day or did not want to be there. Maybe she was called into work on an off day. Who knows??
As we waited, I checked out the disappointing decor, gashes, and scraps on the wall. There were even grey puddie wholes in their white poorly painted walls. (Sigh)
They played music at a decent level, but the kichen conversation was disappointing. They were a bit loud. Louder than the music, and their use of profanity would of offended and table with younger children. Luckily there was only 2 other tables and no little ones there.
About 20/25 minutes later we got our appetizer, the Lemon Pepper Wings and they weren't bad.
By the time we got to our second wing of 10, the entrees came out but were walked past us by another waiter and taken to the wrong table. The gentleman called the waiter back and let her know that wasn't their order. She apologized and brought the untouch entrees to our table. She apologized again and stated she was just trying to help our waiter. (Sigh)
Again we didnt fuss. We accepted the mix up for what it was. But when we got to unwrapping our utensils (a fork and knife) one us only had a knife. The waiter was taking a while to return so we had to find her to get a fork.
As we started eating our waiter came out and checked on us a couple times. We were ok, so we thought. (Sigh) Our entrees were lacking taste. The noodles to the Cajun Pasta were "almost done." The Oxtails were missing seasonings, and the gravy was "almost black." The mac and cheese and green beans were JUST OK, and it also came with a mini bright yellow cornbread muffin that actually tasted better than everything else but the wings. (Sigh)
We got to-go trays, packed our food, paid, and left.
Sorry not going back. I expect...
Read moreMy wife and I ended up here because we were at Town Ballroom for a show, had some time to kill, and were in the mood for some good wings.
Dinosaur BBQ is right there, of course, and their wings aren’t bad, but it’s not a place we would go to for “good wings,” you know?
We also decided it would take too long to walk to Gabe’s Gate and back before the show, especially when accounting for the time it would take to sit down and eat.
I hopped on Yelp and we discovered Brothers. I haven’t read the reviews that prevent this place from getting a perfect 5 stars and I don’t care what they say. Our experience left us wanting to come back before we even saw our food.
From the moment we walked in, the staff was exceptionally friendly and accommodating, leading us to a seat right away with smiles on their faces.
When it was time to order, my wife and I disagreed on wing flavors. She wanted lemon pepper, I wanted honey cajun. We asked for a single order of each. Our server then suggested we combine them into one double order. This surprised us. Most servers at other restaurants would happily charge for two singles when you’re ordering different flavors, but here she was saving us a few bucks just because she could.
As we waited for our food, we admired the surroundings. The vibes and decor spoke to elegance and sophistication, but also simple, laid back, and relaxed. You want to go out for a nice dinner with great food, but don’t want to have to dress up for fear of being judged? This place is a great candidate.
As for our wings, they were great. This place landed on our list of restaurants to get back to as soon as we took our first bite. Unfortunately, we had to box up half of them and bounce in a rush for our show, but we’re definitely coming back here.
When we return with more time to spare, we plan to try some of their entrees, like shrimp & grits and/or Cajun jambalaya. As BIG fans of New Orleans and NOLA cuisine,...
Read moreThis is true comfort food and it’s DELICIOUS! The quality is excellent, portions huge and it’s fresh and hot! I’ve tried three menu items; stuffed meatloaf, shrimp and grits and the fried chicken. The stuffed meatloaf dinner comes with huge meatloaf slabs smothered in rich, dark brown gravy. Sooo good. I had the sides of mac ‘n cheese which is baked to perfection and the green beans and potatoes which are expertly seasoned and have a wonderful tangy quality. The shrimp and grits taste like they came out of a Creole Grandma’s kitchen. Huge, succulent shrimp served in a spicy, deep red/brown sauce loaded with andouille sausage, bell peppers and onions. Served over pan fried wedges of cheese grits. It was phenomenal! Finally the fried chicken. Half a chicken that’s “quartered”. Juicy and tender. Well seasoned and it tastes marinated because you truly taste the herbs and spices throughout the meat. It’s covered in a flavorful cornmeal batter that’s fried up both light and crispy. I added a side for a total of 3; greens that were tangy and savory, mashed potatoes that were of the “smashed variety” seasoned well and I think I tasted sour cream in them and finally the cabbage, lightly seasoned and braised with butter to a perfect tender state. Their food is great, they’re friendly and very courteous! If you’re missing your Mom’s home cooking, give these guys a call and treat yourself and your family to the best comfort food in this city. The prices are also SUPER reasonable, downright cheap for the quality and...
