Does not live up to all the hype. To start off and with a completely honest review I will say, the burger was cooked perfectly at a medium cooked request. Now on for the bad news, to start the bar/pub is very tight and not very roomy. One of the huge reviews by many is there is free chips, salsa and cheese sauce of aome kind along with free popcorn. Now before you can enjoy these items you'll have to find a way to get them into a provided cardboard /paper tray. As a person who does not like community food due to the fact that not many other people wash their hands before eating. True to form there is no provided utensils to transport the food from the bag or the popcorn machine into your try just to that fact alone I sat back and watch many people using their hands digging in the bag to take out tortilla chips, & I watch a girl cough approximately three times and then reach generously into the popcorn machine to get her dish of popcorn by using her hand, to me that is an immediate takes points from the sanitary side of this restaurant. The bottled beer was not that cold and down to the famous buffalo burger restaurants title winning burger. I purchased a basic all american bacon cheese burger. To start with, the burger meat had zero flavor to it, the bacon was burnt along with the roll it came on. The most annoying thing a restaurant can do is cut your food in half. I'm not 7 years old, therfore I dont want my food cut in half. The dressing on the burger was a good bit of letdown all by itself. I have eaten all across this great country and I have never had a well known burger joint serve a burger with tomatoes that haven't been de cored, ( you know the hard greenish center of the tomato.) The bun and bacon were charred too much and dwarfed any possible chance of tasting the meat in anyway shape or form. Overall I would put this place with everything factored in at about a 3 out of 10 with 10 being in beef heaven. Both the wife and I had sub par meals at best. I hope this helps your decision on weather...

I have to say the reviews of this place are incredibly misleading. I’m sure this place was once a must-see destination, but it seems time has gotten the worst of it. Everything was absolutely filthy! The ketchup bottle on our table had black and brown stains all over the cap, the salt and pepper shakers also very questionable, our paper napkins and cutlery came dirty and the table was covered in crumbs… They have a popcorn machine that i wouldn’t touch with a ten foot pole, you can’t even see through the glass, that thing has probably never been cleaned. The owner of the bar was friendly but strange. He kept interrupting us with American trivia questions which was annoying since it wasn’t a trivia night, we just stopped in for some lunch because the reviews were so good. He made a weird comment about his grandmother being hung, and coughed all over our food. He was also our bartender, server, AND cook???? I seriously felt like I was in an SNL skit, it was just absolutely ridiculous. My food was inedible, I literally wrapped half of it in a napkin and threw it in the garbage because I couldn’t eat it (I’m a people pleaser😂). There was a server who was sweet and normal, she was the only saving grace of that place. Be warned. If you wanna go for a good laugh, head on over. If you want a nice and basic health standards abiding place to eat, maybe consider elsewhere. Gordon Ramsey, please pay...

-Current menu on Google maps is old, please update. Esp prices!- Came in for a quick lunch stop with my dad today and figured we'd check this bar out as it has such high reviews. Most of what I've heard about this bar is that it's "The oldest bar in Buffalo" which may or may not be true as far as structure housing a bar goes but the bar tender filled us in that the doors to the bar opened in the mid 1980's, regardless the interior suits it's name as it's decorated with memorabilia from our nation's presidents and wars. There's probably seating for close to 50 people including the bar and a variety of TV's broadcasting the latest sports updates. The menu was on the smaller side but the food didn't disappoint. I ordered the "Philly cheese steak" sandwich and a cup of broccoli and cheese soup. The sandwich was loaded with huge tender cut pieces of actual steak with fresh sweet peppers (and by choice no onion, add mushrooms) the mushrooms was a bad choice as they are canned and not fresh... the roll could have used a decent toast to keep the roll crisp and together but otherwise it's be a 5/5 star review. Stop in for some grub or a drink with friends and you won't be...

Had a late afternoon to kill, went in for a burger. Decor is as others described, but the TVs were a bit noisy with MTV blaring a bunch of 90s to 00s alt rock, pop and lots of hip-hop + r&b. It was incongruous, a little grating, and seemed weirdly at odds with the clientele. Clarissa (IIRC) was delightful, and helped me pick the right beer for my mood (Sam Smith's Nut Brown Ale). Was profoundly disappointed to learn they had no kind of fries or hashbrowns available at all, thanks to the postage stamp-sized kitchen having only a grill. The chips would have to do, but at least the Independence burger was excellent. If all you're out for is atmosphere and a beer, this is a quaint, appealing spot, and if you get peckish, the food is quite tasty. (Though a hot plate to make some hash browns or scrambled eggs would add another star here. )

I came here on a recommendation from one of my coworkers, who grew up in Buffalo. As an American history teacher, this place was somewhat of a Mecca. A classic, local dive with cheap drinks, excellent food, and unique decor. As soon as you walk in you’re greeted by a bunch of portraits and paintings of American presidents, posters, antiques, and other historic artifacts. The food was excellent! I enjoyed the BBQ bacon cheddar burger. My wife had the Louisiana chicken salad, which she loved. We also split an order of the potstickers, which were fabulous and had a notably spicy and delicious sauce. If you’re ever in the area, head here and check it out. You won’t be disappointed!
