Hong Kong Kitchen — Restaurant in Buffalo

This review was written as I ate. Every section and sentence was written directly after eating whatever it is I ate, and is in the order that I ate my meal. I had a friend help me with the eating and alot of the fine description is from her.

Lady on the phone was a dick. Hung up on me abruptly 4 times and was very impatient as well as generally having an additude when I called back. Eventually got the food ordered. The woman and boy delivering the food were friendly however and it was at most a half hour wait for a large amount of food, though I am only a few streets away. Place is slightly more costly than other Chinese restaurants in Buffalo but it definitely wont drain your wallet.

The dumpling dough is very thick-too much so-however they are definitely tasty. The taste of the dumpling sauce is weak; not packing the characteristical punch it should have and instead is subtle (not in a good way), and whatever flavor it does have leaves your tongue after only a second, no aftertaste either. Additionally, the sauce slips right off the dumplings, unable to permeate the half centimeter thick dough. HOWEVER, I did enjoy the dumplings and would buy them again.

Eggrolls were very enjoyable, stayed crispy even though they were in an pretty oily bag with 5 of their bretheren-warm too. Would definitely buy more eggrolls.

Sweet and sour sauce was better than many other places: no chalky, watered down pineapple flavor many other restaurants usually have-however having ordered from this place before it was not this good before, so it's quality is inconsistent. Additionally, it was nice and thick. All in all the sweet and sour sauce is nothing special.

Fried Wonton were very delicious, definitely on the upper end for a cheao Chinese restaurant such as this. The meat was very flavorful, smacking you with that delicious Wonton zing. The dough was very crispy and chewy (in a good way, not an undercooked way). Scooped up some dumpling sauce I had left over and and it was actually more fitting for the Wonton than the dumpling.Would definitely recommend it.

The Pork Mei Fun's noodles were overcooked enough to definitely be noticeable. The sauce was chalky and mealy though it is tasty. Tons of fantastic pork and vegetables. Eggs were just noticeably delicous. Very flavorful, but very dense and the noodles turn into mash what how soft they are. Would recommend, though my partner in crime here hated how it was so soft and just mushy in the mouth.

The Chicken and Broccoli we recieved was with a free coupon as our order was over 35 dollars. You can find this coupon on any menu. Though it's container is smaller than the beef & broccoli and other entrées, it is jam packed with the food. The chicken was more flavorful than many other restaurants's-you can actually taste the poultry rather than some bland meat-and was very soft, too, maybe a tiny bit too much for my taste but still very surprisingly delicous. The broccoli was perfectly cooked, with the satisifying crunch and tenderness of... perfectly cooked broccoli. All the flavor remained too and it was well complemented by the sauce. Now the carrots equally caught me off guard. Never before had I had carrots from a restaurant that retain so much of their flavor while also being as perfectly cooked as the broccoli. Sauce was thick, tasted like it had some beef base and it perfectly complemented the rest of the dish as it clung to every nook and cranny with it's mellow flavor. Surprisingly, the dish I was most underwhelmed about and do not really liked blasted my expectations and I actually enjoyed it. If you want to have chicken and broccoli actually taste how you would expect a dish called chicken and broccoli to taste, get this.

Consensus: Would definitely recommend eating this place's food. Though you may have to fight for it, it definitely has some dishes that make it stand out against the crowd. I will be ordering here...

Today I ordered plain lo main, i found a piece of something that looked like chicken, ok no big deal, im not a vegetarian (yet, am considering becoming one soon) any how, i heated up the last of it in microwave and removed from the pint sized carton only to find with a few bites remaining a cooked a fly---ewwww a fly with one leg, and wings still attached a black cooked fly!!!!!!!!!! How disgusting, I will never order from there again, I tried to call to tell them but they are closed right now, omg, I just threw up twice......Its on my plate right now along with the remaining noodles !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

P.S. A couple of weeks ago on August 21 or 22nd, my daughter was soon to start school on 22nd, so Im pretty sure it was the 21st, they brought a delivery to my house, when i answered i explained no one here had placed an order, the guy very confused returned to his car to get his phone to call in and double check the address, he couldnt find it so i offered to call it for him, it was under the passenger seat, he thanked me and left with the food, and said next time free food for me. Today when the food was delivered my husband went out for it and the guy told him no charge on delivery, free for us....its free anyways as advertised on the menu.....so if this was done out of spite or pure mistake I dont know but hopefully will have an answer...

They are very nice, clean, quick, good prices! I've never have had issues with food orders, even, if I ask for food to b delivered, I always get what I ordered! Food is also still hot when I get it delivered or order there! They sell donuts here too which is great because it's hard to find a place near by that delivers too that has donuts on the menu! Since I was younger I've always liked getting food from here! If you haven't had food from here yet order some! Their sweet and sour chicken, donuts, egg rolls, general Tos, beef or chicken with broccoli ,check out the combos its all great to eat! Especially, if it's your 1st time eating from here! Order there dine in or deliver either way it's quick,hot and yummy! Wish the dining area was little bigger, updated more and decor changed up! Other than that, the Food and service are great!
