I can only sum up my first and only visit to Hutch's with one word: disappointment. I was looking forward to visiting, Hutch was a close friend of my late father and I've heard wonderful things about the restaurant.
It started out well, made a reservation on a Friday night at 8, seated at a nice table, staff was very friendly and professional. The menu was impressive, it made it difficult to decide, which is a good problem to have! I ordered the shrimp/lobster bisque and the NY strip- medium rare, my wife got the kale salad and halibut w/scallops, and we each ordered a nice cocktail.
Her starter was very satisfactory, but mine was where the trouble started. The soup was probably about 95% bisque and 5% shrimp/lobster. A woman at the table next to us ordered the same and hers was very chunky, the proper ratio of bisque to meat. It was tasty, don't get me wrong, but only two small chunks of meat? Come on. How did that make it out of the kitchen?!
We finished our apps and waited for our entrees. And waited. And waited. And waited. Cook time for a 2" thick steak is approx 30 mins with a quick sear...we waited almost an hour for our meals. The manager approached us and explained there was a mix-up in the kitchen with a few table and who's steak was who's... unexpected for an establishment with such a high reputation. I'm a patient guy, so I appreciated the explanation and the comp'd drinks due to the wait. There were at least 2 other tables in our vicinity with steak knives and forks with no meals, each of which had been waiting as long as us.
Finally our meals come to our table, and I begin sampling the accompanying elements on my plate. The onion rings, carrots, potatoes, and green beans were fantastic. The steak was the thickest cut I've ever seen, and I was eager to cut into that beast and devour it. The knife was blunt enough it may as have been a butter knife. I watched two other diners struggle to cut their steaks. The steak was undercooked, and borderline cold in the center. Rather than send it back, I had waited long enough, I was too hungry and just dealt with it. My wife's scallops had turned rubbery having sat under a heat lamp so long the plate was hotter than the food, due to the steak snafu. The steak was tasty, and her halibut was also delicious, so at least we were happy with the taste.
This was a special occasion for my wife, and we chose Hutch's for it's special reputation, but for what we paid I was underwhelmed and a bit annoyed to fork over two hundred bucks. I wish it had been more pleasant, because I know this was an unusual occurrence... But we won't be back. I hope to those reading this review your potential visit goes better than ours, and the law of averages suggests it will.
Hutch, if you're reading this, Little Sheep would have liked to see you there, and I hope we meet again...

Read moreCame here to celebrate our engagement & was incredibly disappointed. Was so excited to try Hutch’s for the first time based on great reviews & recommendation from friends and family but it fell extremely short. They were out of the surf & turf … understandable as we had a late Saturday reservation. Ok let’s carry on. Ordered the bone in tenderloin instead…only to be informed shortly after that they were also out of that. Still tried to keep a positive attitude as we were there to celebrate.
We ordered shishito peppers and ribs for appetizers. Peppers were delicious. Started to wonder where our ribs were as it had been a long time but we were in no rush. These nicer places take time.. we’re there for the experience, fine. We will ask the waitress when she comes back…
Well the waitress did not check in for a while so there was no opportunity to ask when they were coming out. We never got the ribs because our entrees were brought out by a new waiter so we couldn’t even ask about them. They clearly forgot. Another bummer … but once again was still trying to look past it so we could enjoy the evening.
Our waitress finally checked in after our first few bites.. we had to remind her that we never received the ribs.
The final straw… My fiancé ordered the ribeye medium and it was so rare he had to send it back. So now I’m waiting for his meal to be fixed & feel bad eating without him so I couldn’t even enjoy my dish. & Let’s be honest … it’s not very appetizing to eat a steak that you’ve already cut into and is taken back to be recooked and then brought back out. By the time his steak came back out, my meal was cold and we were extremely irritated. Unacceptable for a fine dining restaurant at this price point. We refused to spend any more money on more drinks/dessert so we immediately asked for the check. Hutch’s did try to make right by covering our entire bill but it wasn’t about the money. The experience put a huge damper on what was supposed to be a special night. Should’ve went to Russell’s...
