Sometimes it can be a bad sign when you are the only patrons at a restaurant, but this was not the case with Verde Bistro! We were visiting some friends for the weekend and they suggested we come here for some drinks and tapas. We were the only group for most of the time since we came right at opening time on a Saturday.
The nice thing about being the only patrons for most of our visit: we had excellent service! Juan was attentive and gave helpful tips when we wondered about ordering more than just the pear goat cheese pizza for four people. If you're wondering, his suggestion to order more was accurate. We also ordered the empanadas, which had 3 large empanadas. The pizza was very good. I enjoyed the pear with mozarella and chicken sausage, and although most of the table thought there was too much arugula on the pizza, I really enjoyed the brightness it added. It was also the first time any of us had pecans or any nuts on a pizza before. Creative and it worked! It was like a pear salad on pizza bread. The empanadas were fresh and had a great meat to crust ratio.
For drinks, we had coconut lemonade (it is nonalcoholic) which was like a piña colada and the chocolate Manhattan. I couldn't taste the chocolate until the last 1/4 of the drink, but it was a nice flavor for the little bit I could notice it!
We weren't there for happy hour, but that sounds like a snazzy deal. Tuesday through Thursday from 4 to 6. The locals I was with, also recommended the brunch.
Verde has a great atmosphere. The music was a combination of chill, jazz, and latin. The playlist was on point! It even had us dancing in our seats. The sunroom area where we were seated would be a perfect small party room. It has a bar, large, open windows, and several tables. You also have a view of their outdoor patio. If I lived here, I know I would come here a lot during the summer to sit on the patio with friends with those cute patio lights.
Overall, Verde Bistro is a great place for drinks and tapas. In order to get full, you might have to order quite a few plates, but we enjoyed it for a snack before a late...
Read moreI wanted to like this place... I really did. The service was not that great and there were not many people there, we went the for brunch and I looked at the tapas menu and after everything I have no plans to ever come back.
So we order two bloody merry's we love them and had never had one that we did not like... until today. It tasted like it was 100% clamato juice with a splash of worcestershire. I finialy flag down the waitress and asked if she could swap them out for mimosa instead. Who I am assuming was the manager asked what was wrong with them and I explained that they were not good and tasted like just clamato juice.
Food comes out wife's chilaquiles eggs were over cooked and my breakfast quessadilla was good but it would have been nice if the would have provided more of the green sauce but I knew there was no chance I would get more before I done eating. The fruite that came with our meals was just watermelon, which I am not a fan of but it looked and tasted supper fresh. We were almost done and the mimosa's got there.
We finish our mimosa's and asked for the check. We get the check and the bloody Mary's were on the check. I politely asked the waitress if they were supposed to be there and she said yes, the manager was about 2 feet away and clearly heard. I had no plans to come back before that but it sucked to pay $10 for the WORSE Blood Mary I have ever had.
While I love tapas restaurants has 6 tapas to choose from and I kind of expected them to be Spanish tapas not sliders and brussel sprouts.
We were there for Father's Day brunch and there was hardly anyone there, should have been a sign but how there are not many places to choose from around here I really hoped it was be at least an OK place. Everyone told us the service was bad and we came knowing that and figured we could deal with it.
This place should leave breakfast to Ihop oh wait they are a burger place now,...

My wife and I recently enjoyed a truly exceptional dining experience at Verde Bistro. We had a 6:00 PM reservation, and we were immediately seated in the serene and quiet dining room—a perfect start to our evening.
Our meal began with cocktails, and the bartender's skill was immediately apparent. My Aviation was perfectly crafted, as was my wife’s cocktail. They were the kind of drinks that show a bartender who takes pride in their work.
For our tapas, we started with the Mejillones al Ajillo. They were presented beautifully and prepared expertly, served in a delicious white wine garlic sauce, not the red wine sauce listed on the menu. This is a dish that is nearly impossible to find in the San Antonio to New Braunfels area, which is so saturated with Tex-Mex.
Next, we had the Baked Brie Puffs, which were beyond delicious. Served with a smoky raspberry-chipotle sauce, they were a flavor explosion. We found that two puffs are quite generous and could easily be shared by a group of four, especially if you plan on trying multiple tapas.
We followed with the Gambas al Ajillo and the new Matador Shrimp. Both were outstanding, but the Matador Shrimp was a real standout. The manager, Chris, stopped by our table to get our feedback on this new menu item, and we were more than happy to rave about it. We truly hope it becomes a permanent fixture.
While we were a little disappointed that the Paella is only available on select Thursdays, Chris was happy to take our contact information so he could let us know when it's being served. This kind of personal touch makes a huge difference.
Our evening at Verde Bistro was absolutely delectable and an experience we won't soon forget. It's now at the top of our list for future date nights, and we can’t wait to go back and try more of...
