My wife and I have enjoyed coming to Cora's for a good number of years. We are what you could call infrequent regulars. Prior to COVID and Cora's changing their hours (now closed on Sunday), we stopped more frequently on our way back to State College on Sunday evening after a weekend visit with family in the Reading area. Since then any time we are passing through on US 322 we stop for dinner. On our most recent stop on Saturday, 5/25 we experienced something that has never occurred before -- a bad meal. The food, service, cocktails and atmosphere up to this point have been 5 star --bar staff Steph, Michaela and Brooke are really great. We usually order one of the fish/seafood meals and a Manhattan. I am particularly fond of crab cakes. But since I just had crab cakes the day before at another restaurant, I thought I would order something different this time for a change. I ordered the filet mignon medium rare with a crab cake added. To my disappointment the crab cake was burned black on the bottom. When I brought it to Brooke's attention, she said she would take it back to the kitchen (for replacement). Before she left with the crab cake, she asked me if the filet (nice looking cut) was okay. To my further disappointment, although it looked ok on the outside, when I cut into it, it was raw. Brooke then took the cake and filet back to the kitchen. After a little while she returned with another crab cake (now ok) and the original filet supposedly finished to med rare. However, the filet was still raw inside. After cutting it in half, it went back for second attempt to make it right. After a little while again, Brooke brought the filet back -- it was now done properly. In the meantime my wife had finished her meal, I finished my veggies and the replaced crab cake, we had several drinks and I was now facing a solo filet on a bare plate. I ate a little and had it boxed to go. Brooke was most apologetic throughout, and I appreciate that. However, I would have thought that someone from the kitchen would have shown up to offer some form of compensation, or at the very least apologize. But that did not occur. When a diner orders the most expensive steak on the menu with an added crab cake for $37 expectations are very high for an outstanding meal. But in this case the meal was a total miss. We will return at some point, but I really doubt that I will order the...
Read moreI'm giving all 5 stars tonight because of the PHENOMENAL experience my husband and I had tonight with the Goddess Supreme Mary! From the moment she greeted us with a genuine "How y'all doing?" And I said "We're doing pretty well, how are YOU?" And she said "Thank you for asking!" I told her I'm not a person who asks just to ask. So she told us about her day, and then asked us what yummy drinks she could get us, and pointed out that it was Taco Tuesday. Our entire dining experience was nothing short of a Delightful Dance and Banter; Mary gave exquisite, attentive service, going above and beyond. When I told her about my love of sauces, aka, a multi-ramekin meal, she presented me with a "FLIGHT OF RAMEKINS" ! This woman is an incredible human, and the food was absolutely delicious, brought out perfectly timed. We have food for lunch tomorrow! The cocktails, Pear Mule and Irish Mule, served in proper copper, perfectly concocted! We ordered 1/2 pound steamed/poached shrimp. I loved that it came peeled except for the tails! My only wish is that the cocktail sauce had been spicier. I prefer mine to be heavy on the horseradish. The husband ordered the mango habanero wings with Bleu Cheese and extra celery and devoured them. Main courses were the aforementioned Taco Special for him: 2 Tacos for $5.99 you just can't go wrong! So he got the steak and the fish, and said they were delish! Brought one of each home. I chose the scallop salad, which was overflowing with perfectly seared scallops, paired well with the poppyseed vinaigrette, and because I am a bleu cheese maniac, and Cora's Bleu Cheese dressing is the BOMB, I had some of that, as well. Did I mention that the reason for the Flight of Ramekins was for the side of fries that we ordered?! And last, but not least, the hubs also ordered the shaved brussels sprouts with bacon. Oh. My. Goddess. Culinary Celebration! Bellies full, Mary brought boxes and togo ramekins (for all of my sauces) and our check, cheerfully telling us that she'd also be our cashier. Every single moment of our time at Cora's tonight was magnificent! Thank...
Read moreA group of us dined at Cora’s on a Saturday afternoon. We had planned to reserve the upstairs to host a baby shower and our group wanted to see the place and try the food. The server spilled salad dressing all over the coats of two people in our group. We waited 45 minutes for our food. I actually waited an hour because my food (lasagna) was served 15 minutes later. The pasta dishes were good but all other food was bland, dry, lukewarm, etc. Even after the awful experience, we were still going to hold the shower there. However, after weeks of asking for a quote on catering, we were finally emailed a quote (4 weeks before the shower) and the price seemed entirely unreasonable, especially after the experience we had. Unfortunately, I would not recommend Cora’s for dining in or catering. There are better options.
Edited to respond to owner’s response: I can promise you that a discount was absolutely not applied to any of the 3 checks issued to those in our group. I do stand corrected regarding the timeline of the catering quote. It was provided March 7 and the menu was decided one month prior on February 7. The event was to be held April 12, which is 5 weeks from receipt of the catering quote. The alternative option was to have the guests order off the menu, but it is extremely hard to trust that our 30 guests would be served in a timely manner or have a pleasant experience after the experience our small...
