Butler Hot Dog Shoppe is one of our perennial favorites while on our way out to enjoy time at Moraine State Park or anywhere up in that area. As one might imagine, the hot dogs are the primary reason to go, but they have a lot of other hits on their menu. Burgers are prepared fresh, the Butler Cheesesteak sub is great and will fill a huge appetite, and the hot dogs are, of course, great. The toppings aren't fancy-gourmet-like things, but instead are old-fashioned, hearty helpings of classic things, like chili, cheese sauce, onions, sauerkraut, and pickle spears. Their multi-packs are great deals. The service is exceptionally quick, especially for a place that is making a lot of items to-order. Walk in, order a six pack of dogs with toppings of choice, and you're probably in and out in five minutes.
Sides are generous for the prices and done well. Fries are frozen but fried correctly and are great with a side of their "orange" gravy. The onion rings, however, are a special treat. Fresh onion slices are battered and fried on the spot and are worth the stop just for an order. Get a side of the orange gravy for dipping. You won't be sorry.
The Butler Hot Dog Shoppe and a separate six pack shop are located in an old gas station on Monroe St. There really isn't any inside seating, but there are several tables set up outside. Everything is packaged to go, so it's just as easy to take your goodies and run to a park or other place to have a quick picnic. They also have a second location on Evans City Road, located inside a sports complex. The Evans City location has a lot of inside seating and offers the same menu and service.

Read moreUsually very good. Have always loved the hot dogs with chili, onions & pickle. Butler's best. A local tradition. We usually love their amazing onion rings too...but, tonite, I stopped by for a take out order, & the girl working the fryer never stopped talking loudly (for everyone to hear) to her co-workers the entire time she was preparing the o rings. Consequently, the onion rings were undercooked, soggy, greasy & horrible. We threw them away. I suggest management has a word with this young lady..ask her to ..pay attention to what she is doing & stop "performing" for the staff & the...
Read moreVisiting the hot dog shop after being gone many decades.... The shop is down along the railroad tracks in a gas station type setting. This was weird. The Chili dogs were okay. Served in a clean manner. No steamed buns? No one shouting 2 HOTS CHILI, PICKLES, FRIES & ORANGE GRAVY!! I'd give the chili sauce a C in originality. Decent orange 🍊gravy. Quick service. Nice staff. All in all...worth a visit. But you can never recreate the historic heart of downtown Butler bustle & loud servers loudly shouting orders & the spicy, clove, cinnamon, peppery chili sauce on a dog within a fresh...
