Ale Bird is a gift of rejuvenation to a historical building here in Byron Center. What Marion and his crew did with the interior is just awe inspiring. The woodwork and craftsmanship that went into every detail of their setup is superb.
The beer and the food is just incredible. They have a growing selection of their own in house brewed beers along with an impressive list of other breweries liquid gold. The Cheesehead Burger is on the next level for burger lovers. They locally source much of their food and are always striving to improve and add new offerings with a rotating menu.
The upstairs area is equipped with a full bar, mirroring the selection from downstairs, and an insanely relaxing vibe. This is mostly used for private reservations, so I would certainly consider them for your next event.
Overall, I am just tickled pink to have Ale Bird part our community (and just a 2 minute or so walk away from home you can't beat it!) and am looking forward to years of patron-ship!
4 years later: Still love this joint; there have been several drastic changes including no brewing due to new acquisition, however still an incredible environment and amazing bartenders, Audrey is my gal, she’s always spot on and hustles harder than anyone, super personable in a real way, food is still great and although no in house brews, the beer selection is great! Still a mug club member and will be for the...
Read moreThe atmosphere here is rustic, occupying an old hotel and Chicken restaurant. It feels warm and welcoming.
I had heard they have really good burgers so I ordered the Cheese Head Burger ($17). This is a MI CRAFT BEEF DOUBLE SMASH BURGER, BACON, CHEESE CURDS AND BEER CHEESE. This was good, definitely above average. However it was also disappointing. This may be because I prefer a thick juicy burger over a smash burger. The quality of the meat was very good and the cheese tasted good. However everything together was just a little underwhelming. I also got fries with it ($2). Sadly these too were underwhelming. There was nothing technically wrong with them, I was just disappointed. I kinda wished I'd just stuck with the chips. The person I was with ordered the Buffalo Nickel Burger ($19). This is a BUFFALO BURGER WITH GRILLED MUSHROOM AND ONIONS, SWISS CHEESE AND HOUSE THOUSAND ISLAND ON PRETZEL BUN. It was stated to be excellent.
The service was excellent. Super friendly staff.
Overall if I'd been alone the rating probably would have been a 3 star review. However because the person I was with loved hers and I really liked the service I decided on a 4 star review. Would I return? Maybe. If someone else wanted to go then I would, but I don't see...
Read moreWe had the cheese curds for an app - needed marinara (which they don’t have) and the honey mustard was just not a good honey mustard. We ate the curds with Ranch, but it was just “okay”. If the curds would have been paired with a good sauce, they would have been really good.
Ordered the Philly - the meat was DRY AS A BONE, and there was no sauce on the sandwich. I ordered beer cheese vs the Provolone for the Philly and it didn’t really help. It was just dry, dry, dry. No au jous, no signature sauce. Nothing. Even the veggies were dry. The bread was dry. Dry, dry, dry.
Everything tonight was lacking sauce. The components were there - the sauce was missing. Sauce is so clutch. This could be a really good restaurant but….sauce is flavor. Sauce is love, and sauce is soul. The meal felt soul…less.
Also, please consider making your fried chicken sammich Southern style. It would vastly improve an already good sammich.
Overall, this is a decent restaurant with decent food…it just needs some tweaking. Throw out your current sauces, and make some really good house sauces, and treat the fried chicken like fried chicken wants to be treated.
Great service! Really good atmosphere. Really...
