This was a horrible experience. The place wasn't busy (less than 3 tables, including ours & each with its own waitress), but all 3 waitresses had to wait unusually long periods of time for their orders. Our food randomly came to our table with a big gap between the delivery of the 1st 2 & 3rd entrée. (More info below.)
My husband ordered sweet & sour chicken which came with the sauce set aside in a cup instead of already coating the tempura-battered shrimp. The sauce was very watery in its consistency & didn't stick to the batter. It "wasn't bad," but he didn't finish it which is very unusual for him. He didn't touch his fried rice or the stir-fried veggies, but I swiped some of his veggies, & they were the best thing that I ate there.
I ordered General Tso's chicken which may be odd since it's typically a dish served in Chinese restaurants, but I got it because there weren't many options for entrées, & it had been a long time since I had it. I'm typically not a spicy girl when it comes to Asian cuisine, but I enjoy the kick that General Tso's chicken typically offers. It was served at the same time that my husband's food was served. There were a lot of bite-sized pieces of flavorful, juicy chicken breast coated in General Tso's sauce; however, it was fried in a different batter which was very thin (way thinner than my husband's tempura chicken), the sauce had absolutely no kick to it at all, & it was 75% cold & had to be sent back for a reheat. She was a bit taken aback by the notification that my dish was cold but offered to give me a new order. Since we'd waited an unreasonable amount of time for this & were still waiting for our daughter's food to arrive which is why I asked for a reheat. The fried rice was very dry. I got a to-go box & bought a bottle of General Tso's sauce on the way home. I haven't tried it, yet, but hope that it adds flavor to the dish that I was craving.
Our daughter is a sushi connoisseur & ordered the nigiri & a Tokyo Drift roll off the A-list (can't remember the name) that included cream cheese & tempura-battered crawfish set in & drizzled with 2 sauces. Her order arrived more than 10 minutes after ours. After eating the 1st 2 pieces of nigiri, she ate the fish without the rice because the fish was cut a bit thick, & she didn't finish it because one of them tasted funny. The Tokyo Drift wasn't great, either. We each had a piece, & I can't put my finger on it, but one of the items tasted a bit funny, & it wasn't the rice or the sauce but something at the bottom of the roll.
At this point, we were done & asked for the check. It wasn't worth speaking to someone about our experience. This review will have to do. We will not be eating...
Read more*update. Same crap again. This time, the food is even less flavorful. Comparable to freezer section of the grocery store. In fact, I wish I had of just picked up groceries and heated them at home. WHAT A WASTE of great potential. (April 2025).
I can still remember the first time we tried Naru. I was not impressed with the layout or the atmosphere of the restaurant, but the food was decent. The next time we tried them, the space was still boring, but the staff was excellent, and the food was AMAZING. We had ordered the same as today, General Tso chicken, Sesame chicken, and Tuna Tartare. The Tuna Tartare USED TO BE layers tall... Used to be finesse. Now, it looks like it's made in a cup with a single layer, overloaded with rice for a whopping $15!!!! Sure, the flavors are good, but nothing as good as I remember. Now, for the extremely SAD and angering portion of our order today. Both of the main dishes (Gen Tso and Ses Chic) ARE IDENTICAL!!! The "GT" has green onions and the "SC" has Sesame seeds. End of story. That's the only difference. They are literally the same color, and in a blind taste test my husband and i performed on each other to verify we weren't nuts- THE SAME. Even the color! And the flavor is lacking. I honestly cannot believe this is the same restaurant. (Pics posted) I'M SO GREATLY DISAPPOINTED. I cannot say IF or when I'd be willing to try Naru again. A $75 dinner that cannot compare to 3 of the finest Asian restaurants in Central Arkansas for about the same price. But Boring and sad. Did I mention...
Read moreI've always loved Haru, the food is great and we used to get sushi here often but after the experience tonight we will never be returning to give another penny to their atrocious customer service. My girlfriend and I are both servers and we know what its like to have people walk in or call in to eat 10 minutes before close. Since we were being "those people" we made sure to order already prepared food so as to not inconvenience the kitchen, 2 bowls of soup and an order of lo mein noodles. We called the order in at 8:45, and the girl who took our togo order said as long as we made it there by 9pm it was fine. She pulled up at 8:56pm went to the door and the girl who took our order came running to lock the door, flipped the closed sign in her face, and mouthed we're closed. We called and no one answered. We drove down the road to get Zaxbys, and recieved a phone call from Haru at 9:10pm asking if we were still coming to pick up our togo order. What a laughable experience, I wouldn't believe that someone was so lacking in common sense and social skills that they would lock a paying customer out of their building and ignore them rather than open the door and say, "I'm sorry Maam we're closed," if it were in a movie. With terrible customer service like this its amazing to me Haru is still in business but they wont be for long treating their customers like this. Drive down the road to Tokyo japanese steakhouse, bigger sushi, better food, better customer service, better experience. Thats what we'll be doing...
