I am very sorry to say that Ocha Asian-Japanese Cuisine in Caldwell, NJ - fell Far Short of our expectations! Maybe Everyone in the restaurant was having a Completely Bad day, All at the Same time! From trying to find a free OR metered parking space, Anywhere within Two blocks, to their Not shoveling a simple Two foot path to enter their restaurant to our entering the restaurant to an Empty hostess stand (we were Never greeted and waited to be seated for several minutes) to our "waitress" trying to clear our plates, without asking if we were done, while we Still had food on them!
To start, we received 2 glasses of water with Desiccated, Incredibly Slimy and Wilted lemons! - One was replaced after a couple of minutes.
Then, 1 of our appetizers of Calamari for $7.95, were 10 (TEN) thin, small, rubbery, overcooked pieces served with some kind of inappropriate/non-complimenting, weird tasting Tomato like sauce. A Completely unacceptable portion for what would have been a fair price! Before we ordered, we asked if we could have some spicy mayo or Eel sauce instead, but we were told there would be a charge, Really? We have been dining out almost daily, across the Tri-State area, for Decades and have Never been charged for our 1st. condiment! The Miso Soup was very bland, with few microscopic Tofu and almost non-existent seaweed. The Mix Tempura for $9.95, consisted of Shrimp and vegetables. The portion was fair for the slightly above average price but the dipping sauce was like a salty soy sauce.
We were Never checked on during our meal nor asked if we needed or wanted anything else. This was completely fine as the two young ladies on the floor, the one who eventually appeared and seated us and our waitress, were not welcoming, friendly nor attentive at all!
Needless to say, even with Any deals or offers in the future, we will Never be returning to Ocha Asian-Japanese Cuisine in Caldwell, NJ.

Read moreI'm really sad to say my dining experience left me so disappointed that I am writing my first Google review ever. I dined at Ocha several times about 3-4 years ago and decided to come back with family since I was in the area. That was a mistake... 1- Fish quality. I'm a frequent sushi-eater (ranging from local spots to high-end places), and I have never been served such a poor cut of toro before. My bite was so unpleasant in taste and texture that I could not finish it. 2- Roll quality. Large selection of rolls, but you'll be hard-pressed to find one without "filler" (aka. tempura crunch). Fish taste is covered by a variety of sauces. Avocado must be pre-cut because it was browned, and it ruined the taste of the rolls. Pro: good rice:fish ratio. 3- Cleanliness. Table was not cleaned from previous guests. Dinnerware was filled with fingerprints and some type of grime I assume is from the cleaning product/machine? 4- Understaffed. Only one waitress for the entire restaurant who was responsible for answering phones, organizing pick-up orders, cleaning, and taking care of seated guests. She was very pleasant, but obviously overwhelmed.
Overall, my family and I did not finish our $100+ meal and left feeling very uneasy about what we had just consumed. As is, I can't recommend this restaurant to anyone and we will not be returning. It was very sad to see given my positive experiences...
Read moreThe employee working there is rude, I really don’t know how they have so many good reviews which is whT drove me and my friend to end up here. This is the worst sushi I’ve ever tried lol the food was straight up Bland, from the chicken teriyaki to the SPICY California roll(wasn’t even spicy). The avocado in the sushi did not taste well. They’re seriously overpriced, the food is definitely not worth the money. I had to ask for a straw 3 times before getting it, they never went to check on us while we were eating, and literally disappeared so i had to wait for over 10mins for a spicy mayo. and the one girl there was rude & was literally chewing gum all up on our faces. I felt as if I was not even...
