On the way to/from Tahoe/Reno??? Stop here for a bite to eat, you won’t regret it!
Here’s the backstory… I have an EV that can now use Tesla Supercharging stations, so when looking for places to charge up, I found a spot in Auburn that can top me off before heading up into the mountains. Let’s be honest, once you get into Nevada, there aren’t a lot of convenient choices for recharging. I digress…
After plugging into my first TS station, up the road was Ikeda’s Market (6 min walk). So as I was walking up to grab some lunch, I walked past Awful Annie’s. I’ve always noticed it from the freeway, but judging from its signage, I never thought about stopping in the past. There were quite a bit of cars out front so I turned around and decided to give it a try… glad I did!
Inside is a great, casual, wide open space which is great for all party sizes, from one person to twenty. The crowd is mixed and there appears to be a lot of regulars (a good sign). Service was friendly and efficient.
As for the food, I ordered a cup of the clam chowder and Annie’s French Dip sandwich with a side salad. The soup was delicious and the side salad was fresh and served with a nice Italian dressing (which I ordered). When my sandwich came though, it wasn’t the French Dip I had ordered, but an Italian Sub… although disappointed with the wrong order, I was pressed for time and didn’t want to make a fuss because the sandwich did look really good. First bite in and I could have cared less that the order was bungled. This sandwich was amazing!
As an update, I did stop by again the next day and ordered the French Dip and that was spectacular too!
Anyways, this could be my new GO TO on the way up the Tahoe from here on out. Actually, I hated it and you shouldn’t stop here… save the seat for me! I’m sure the secret is out on this place and I’ve been oblivious to it;...
Read moreWe have not been here for 8 months. Did you change ownership or cooks? We are wondering because all around the food was not good. We went for the wife's bday breakfast. We were so excited to come here, because of the hollandaise sauce. We'll good thing we always try the sauce. We were shocked to find out that it's not made true to scratch hollandaise. In fact it is now a lumpy gravey tasting yuck from a packet. We inquired to our server who was very gloomy the whole time and answered us like we were wasting her time and didn't have a clue it was different. How does a server that's worked there for years not know the hollandaise sauce has changed and no Bueno? Well there goes all the yummy bennidicts. So the wife went straight for her other favorites; the bloody Mary and bacon flight. Bloody mary was a bit watery and they used to make them look so nice with the garnish, not anymore! Bacon flight over all was greatly lacking flavor and freshness unlike the many prior ones we have ordered. Don't order the roast beef sandwich because that has less meat and flavor now. Chicken fried steak was so small, but decent with the gravy. There breakfast potatoes cold, undercooked, tasted like left overs reheated in the microwave. The BAT omelet was horrible. Pretty much no bacon or avocado and so much tomatoes that it was drawing in tomatoe liquid. The only thing semi decent was theRuben. 2 of us got stomach aches shorty after eating. Awful Annie's why is your food so awful now? At least Bacon & Butter and Bennetts consistency is there for us to keep enjoying. Wish you...
Read moreCame here before driving back home to the bay area from Tahoe, and let me tell you.... you should really try this place. It was a bit crowded and loud but there was no wait when we arrived. The food portion are big so you can probably share it if you want. The server was all very nice and kind! We ordered Monte Cristo, Parmesan crusted grilled cheese eggs benedict, regular eggs benedict, and strawberry waffle. They were all very good! I especially love the Parmesan crusted grilled cheese eggs benedict. Warning though, it was very filling because it's a literal grilled cheese sandwich with ham and eggs benedict, with fruit sliced on the side (you can also opt for potatoes but I had enough carbs with the grilled cheese.... The monte cristo honestly was a bit disappointing because it tasted very eggy and not really sweet despite the looks of it. I also felt weird because its a french toast but it has some ham also..? but its still good regardless, just not as good as the parmesan crusted grilled sandwich, of course!
They also have variety of tea and cocktails, as well as freshly squeezed orange juice. All in all, we will definitely come back whenever we are...
