I have been going to this restaurant for years, decades even. I has always been my go-to breakfast spot when visitors come to town. The food is fantastic and the staff is excellent, except….
Here was my experience on Monday morning about 10:40. I pulled into the parking lot where there was plenty of spot open. As I was parking I noticed a couple more cars pulling in. I walked into the restaurant where the sign said “Seat Yourself”. I selected a table against the far window with two chairs.
There were already two menus on the table as well as two sets of silverware and two coffee cups which were upside down. I sat down and turned over one of the coffee cups and pushed the menu aside as I already knew what I was going to order. I noticed a waitress carrying an order out of the kitchen to a table just behind me. After delivering the meals to that table she headed back to the kitchen.
As I was waiting a couple entered the restaurant as seated themselves at a table in front of me. A second pair arrived a sat down at a table nearby. The waitress, who had tattoos down both arms, walked out from the kitchen and approached the couple at the table in front of me and asked them if they wanted coffee. They state that they wanted decaf. She then visited the 2nd couple and took their beverage order and headed back to the kitchen area.
She returned with coffee for both tables and then headed back to the kitchen. It seems that I was invisible. I was sure that I was in “her section” as she was delivering food behind me and taking orders in front of me and to my side. I wouldn’t mind being able to become invisible if I could control it.
She returned a few minutes later to take their orders, ignored me completely. I got up and headed for the door. Our eyes met for a second and I just kept going.
I drove to Nancy’s Café on Elm Avenue near the Round Table. It was excellent. I also like Mom’s Kitchen on Nevada Street. I will try Sweet Peas again...
Read moreWe tried to go to Awful Annie's in mid-July on a Wednesday in the noon hour. It was packed and no parking at all in the parking lot. We decided to look elsewhere. I saw Sweetpeas across the freeway and we decided to try that. It was slow there, about 22 tables, and 6 or 7 tables being used. I was surprised at how little traffic (customers) was/were there. We ate lunch, it was ok, not bad, not great. It met our needs for lunch. It felt like the older crowd likes to hang out there. The atmosphere felt a bit older and well-used. It seemed to take longer to get our food than it should have, based on the amount of customers there. The waitress did apologize and say the cook seemed to be in slow-mode today. The place was nice enough to go there again, but it wouldn't be our first choice. We are having to make 2 more 6-hour round-trip drives to Auburn, and did another trip yesterday. We went back to Awful's, even though the parking was tough again, we found a spot and the wait to be seated was only 10 minutes. To be honest, we got the same food we got the first time we went there last month, and it wasn't as good this time. We may try a new restaurant on our next trip. Or, we may head back over and try...
Read moreFood was excellent. Atmosphere was satisfactory. Service was good, less the server Who said the following to me "hombre, this is not Mexico"
I a 6' mixed race biege guy who said 0 about Mexico, or anything there abouts I did say, where exactly am I? I meant it. I was in process driving 84east coast to coast Not sure what was up with the Guy, perhaps the current climate of the country got em abit frazzled, he did appear to be of Latino heritage, as I perhaps looked to him. Whatever, it was offensive and spoiled an otherwise enjoyable experience.
Incidents, I've been Baja numerous times, and am here to speak about it. I didn't see any sign of Immigration and/or Border Protection until I traveled well into Illinoise.
