We went here for dinner before a movie across the street. We love trying new places and thought we'd give it a chance.
The interior of this place is totally random, looks like maybe they took over another spot and didnt redo any of the painting or decor. There are only a few uninviting tables if you want to eat it. Based on this and a few other things it seems like they really push their catering and to go services.
There is a posted menu and little cards with the menu, but nothing with prices. We ordered a large fried chicken plate and a small jerk chicken plate. The order taker asked for a card and never announced our total and did not issue a receipt. We didnt realize til we got home that the meal was over $37. We asked for waters and were told they dont offer water cups, only bottled water for an additional charge.
While we waited for our food several of the people working there were constantly bickering. They were also making smoothies, adult oriented smoothies. Another customer asked how much for one of their smoothies and was told they were for the employees only. After a bit of a wait we were asked if we were eating there. The man said he would bring our food around the counter, then set it down and walked away to bicker with the woman some more. A few minutes later he finally brought us our food... in Styrofoam containers, with plastic utensils...
The chicken was good, especially the jerk chicken, it the chicken werent as good as it was this would be a 1 star review, but the excellent chicken earned them 1 extra. The veggies were cooked right, but bland. The rice was ok but cold, and WAAAY too much. The plantains were nonexistent, literally.
So, 2 stars for the good chicken, bad atmosphere, bad ordering and payment practices, a $37 eat in meal served in to go containers with no water cups and missing food. Based on the price alone we wont be going back, which is sad, because the chicken was really good, but...
Read moreA few weeks ago I visited this particular establishment and ordered an oxtail plate. When I reached my home I opened up the plate and smelt that the oxtails were scorched and they also tasted as such. I called to the restaurant and spoke with a lady and explained that the oxtails were scorched and suggested not to sell any more from that batch. She apologized and agreed that they were and said I was welcome to come back and have my order remade. Today I go in, which is about a month later, and state what happened my name and what was told to me by the lady to the cashier. After I finish speaking he says “it sounds like you have an attitude, all you had to do was just tell me and I would get it for you” -_- Like I told him for one I don’t have an attitude I’m stating facts of the situation and for two if I had an attitude it would be warranted because I’m having to come up here to have something replaced that was not right, that I paid for. The young man at the counter is rude and unprofessional. He always seems to have a chip on his shoulder; the couple of times I’ve been there. As a man he needs to watch his mouth talking to women any kind of way because if I had an attitude what would he had done about it? This establishments food is not good enough for this treatment. Save your...
Read moreIf you’re craving real Jamaican food in Sacramento, Dubplate Kitchen in Arden Arcade is where the magic happens. This spot isn’t just good—it’s straight fire. From the moment you walk in, the aroma hits you like a wave of island flavor. You know you’re in for something serious.
Let’s get right into the heavy hitters:
The Jerk Chicken—hands-down, one of the best in the city. The spice level is dialed in perfectly—just enough heat to wake up your senses, but not so much it overpowers the deep, smoky, well-marinated flavor. Every bite is juicy, tender, and packed with that signature jerk punch. You can tell this isn’t some watered-down version—this is authentic Jamaican soul food.
Now, if you’re into rich, comforting curries, do not sleep on the Goat Curry. It’s bold, meaty, and beautifully seasoned—slow-cooked to that fall-off-the-bone texture with spices that cling to every bite. The kind of dish that makes you close your eyes while eating and just vibe with the flavor.
The portions? Generous. The staff? Warm and welcoming. The vibe? Chill but full of character, just like the food. Whether you're a longtime Jamaican food lover or trying it for the first time, Dubplate Kitchen delivers a culinary experience you won’t forget.
