Family run business, with fresh ingredients and homemade tortillas and horchata. Located next to a plum orchard. Honestly, this was one of the best Mexican meals that I have ever had. Not to be missed.
Update 8/1/2023 I finally made it back to this hidden gem. This time I got Enchiladas Verdes. One with potatoes and one with cheese. What makes this special is that itâs a family run restaurant. The ingredients are fresh and the flavors remind me of home made meal. The prices are very reasonable for the quality. Thereâs plenty of parking in front too.
Update 4/11/2025 I happened to be in Fairfield and decided to go back to this wonderful restaurant. They moved to a new location just off the main downtown street. They have a big parking lot and plenty of parking. The new space was bigger than before with a much bigger kitchen. I saw all the same familiar faces. I ordered an Horchata and then I heard the blender going. Itâs homemade from rice and not from a powdered mix. It was super creamy and just the perfect amount of sweetness. It was delicious. I had the potato and cheese green enchiladas again. The enchiladas were delicate and homemade. These were not store bought tortillas from a bag. I was blown away again by the flavors and the ocean of cheese and green salsa. The chips also came with 2 types of salsa....

The food is incredible and the tortillas, thick and freshly griddled, are superb. But what really brings each meal to the next level is the combination of ingredients which, to me, are unexpected.
Each time I get tacos. A gooey base of melted shredded Cheddar compliments perfectly crispy Asada. Chopped lettuce and tomato enhance the impression of an American taco undiminished by an Anglo American palette.
Todayâs meal included a chipotle salsa with a hint of Chamoy (or something similar), which is another combo completely new to me. Iâm full but I hunger to return.
Lastly, the setting is gorgeous.
That being said, Iâd eat these tacos even if they were offered to me by a stranger on Bart.
âI got El Pitayo, but Iâm full,â I imagine her saying. Without hesitation I reach for the extra tacos, two chicharron with everything. Three bites in and golden chipotle juice is covering my face. I glance up to meet her approving nod as she hands...
Read moreThe best Mexican food I've had outside of my Mexican Mom's kitchen!!!! We tried numerous dishes, as it was our first time here, and it was ALL delicious. My Mom's hobby was cooking and baking, and she was great at both!:) So, yes, I know good homemade food when I get it....and, that's what is served at this little hidden gem, El Pitayo. The tortillas are homemade deliciousness, both the flour and the corn were yummy. The thick corn masa they make the sopes and Taco's with is sooo good (gorditas is what I grew up calling them:), thick delicious corn goodness! The carne asada is cooked and seasoned to perfection. The chicken sopes and Taco's were great, too. The salsa they gave us was tasty with just the right hint of heat. And, yes, even their tortilla chips were warm and good. The servings are big and the prices are reasonable, especially, considering the quality and quantity they give you. I agree with another review that said the food here rivals the food in the Mission District of San Francisco. Do yourself a favor and try this family restaurant, you'll be so...
