Food is always great! I mainly get the taiyaki and I really enjoy how crunchy it is without being burnt in any way. As for ambience, it's always a bit too loud in the shop. It'd be nice if they lowered the music, so that I don't have to yell my order to the staff. Usually the staff are great, prompt, and courteous. Tonight's staff crew (Angelbaby, Kelly, and a girl who had a lot of bruises on her neck) was lacking in the customer service department. I placed my order, then had to take my kid to bathroom. We were gone for about three minutes, then I returned to the counter area, but none of the girls acknowledged my presence even though all three of them made eye contact with me at some point. They stayed clustered together and away from the counter area, so it was difficult for me to talk to them due to their distance and the loud music. I waited a few more minutes just in case my order still wasn't ready. Kelly made eye contact with me three times, but never asked if I needed any help. Finally the girl with the neck bruises got close enough to the counter, so that I could talk to her. I asked her if the order for Kim was ready. All she said was, "Oh yeah." No apology and just handed the box to me without asking if I needed a bag (usually SomiSomi staff offer me a bag and are polite). The experience makes me regret tipping them when I paid...
Read moreWent to Somisomi in Elk Grove for the first time. Can't wait to go back.
The four of us each ordered a different Ah-Boong (a fish-shaped waffle cone filled with a topping and soft serve ice cream). I had the honeydew soft-serve with the custard filling. YUMMMM!
Fourth grader ordered übe soft serve with custard filling. She loved it. The rest of us had ours upside down (soft-serve in a cup with filled waffle fish on top),she had hers with the ice cream on top of the fish waffle. She was a sticky mess pretty quickly.
Teenager ordered the milk tea with taro filling. It was very quiet from the back seat.No complaints or grumbles until it was all gone. One can only assume she liked it. Wife had the Mango soft-serve with custard filling. She loved!
We also ordered taiyaki (fish shaped waffle).to share. One with taro filling.and one with bean paste filling. These were awesome. We wished we had gotten more.
Staff were all very pleasant and efficient. Everything was clean and well organized. There are standing bars but no tables inside.
My only negative: No outdoor eating area. There is a patio next to them that would be perfect for tables or benches and maybe some sun shades for...
Read moreThe interior is clean, simple, and aestheticly pleasing. After you order you walk down and can see them preparing you order. When they are complete, if you ordered an ahboong, they will ask after completion if you'd like toppings and a strawberry or macaroon to put on top. The flavors are always delicious and the toppings hit the spot each top. I noticed that the fish is much smaller than before and the serving is smaller also. Not a big deal bc I am stuffed after I finish my icecream. I like how spacious it is inside and the floating tables are great for individuals who want to stand and eat their icecream inside. I think if they invested in seating outside it would be phenomenal and much more lively. The only down side is the last 3 times I've gone they've had very sour employees who seem mad or miserable at their job, that definitely takes away from my experience. Hopefully they can coach or hire employees who make the experience fun. Eating this unique icecream is so exciting and different, the people who serve should rlreflect that as well....
