Copper Country always captivates me.some of if not the oldest geology of Michigan and to experience some of the earliest development in the UP and Shutes brings you back in time along with the rest of the structures that have survived from the Copper boom. Going thru their door is taking a step back in the history of the region. Plus the service and welcoming atmosphere makes you feel like you been a long time patron. The tall dark haired bartender(wish I remembered his name) was very versed on the history of the establishment. The thing that most impressed us most was the fact that we had bought a beer cozy and it fell out of or bag. We called them about an hour later and he said he had found it and knew why we were calling. We received it in our mail 5 days later! The owners are trying to preserve a part of the Copper country history so please if you ever get to Calumet Mi stop in and take in a part of the history of our wonderful UP and sign the guest book and buy a beverage or two. Everything about this bar, from the murals on the walls to the original wall mirror and copper overhang is ornate and calls back to the days when this was a rich and bustling boom town in the copper mining days when more wealth was extracted from here in copper than gold from the gold rush.

The building itself is amazing. The care taken to preserve the original architecture and feel, while ensuring everything is up-to-date (and code) makes it a very unique stop.
