The Barbara Kettle Gundlach Shelter Home has held 2 events at the Agassiz House Inn in Calumet since it's opening this fall. The most recent was on December 12th when the Inn's owners Hosted the Shelter staff for our Holiday Luncheon and we oerdered our meal from the Michigan House in Calumet. We had a great time going through the Inn to see the renovations and say many times, "did you see what they did too the 3rd floor, or that bathroom is so big"! Thank you for allowing us to the time there to reminisce! On October 27th, we held a Fundraiser, "An Evening at the Agassiz Inn". We had over 40+ people attend and tour the Inn, enjoy a buffet of appetizers and take part in our Silent Auction. The owners of the Inn brought up Jim and Eli, their beautiful Belgian Horses to take our guests on a ride through Calumet; however, the weather turned rainy, windy and cold, so Jim and Eli were just as happy to stay in the trailer as were our guests to stay inside. The evening was very nice and there was a lot great conversatiions shared about the Agassiz House even before it was our first shelter between 1983 and 2021. Thanks Beth and Cheryl for being our Hosts and giving us the space to hold our event. The Board and Staff appreciate your generosity. The Agassiz House Inn is the perfect setting for such an event as ours was and would be a great venue choice for Weddings, Bridal & Baby Showers, business meetings where those traveling can stay right there., and many more events. The renovations they have done have certainly brought it back to its original glory. We are a lucky community to have the Inn open and available...
Read moreSuch a fantastic experience in a great historical location. My stay at the Agassiz House Inn was definitely 5 stars. There is plenty of parking, plenty of common area to visit with guests and friends and a large community kitchen. I stayed with a large group of college friends and we were all impressed by the extensive renovations that the owners have done to the historic home. Our accommodations were clean, beds were comfortable and the bathrooms were fresh. The owners were readily available for questions and recommendations.
There is plenty to do in the surrounding area, including beautiful drives, hiking, water sports, tours, historical sites and museums, shopping and yummy regional food.

The host was extremely hospitable gave a list of places to eat in the area and also gave some history on the house. There’s also some very rich history in this entire area as the house sits right in the middle of a national park If we are back in this area, we are definitely...
