We stayed here over the Labor Day weekend and the place was full. This is one of the best Americ inns we have been to overall. The staff was super nice and very friendly. Rooms were very good and beds also too. The pool is great as well as the whirlpool after a day of walking, hiking, biking, etc.||The morning breakfast is good overall, with a good choice of breakfast options on the cold end of items, like ceral breads, muffins, bagels, etc. Glad to see also some sugar free jam spreads for diabetics too. Sugar free syrup, not sure if they have it.|| On the warm end it needs improvement from a standpoint, add some hash brown patties. I know it's a corporate thing, but really, sausage and eggs without hashbrowns is kind of like seriously are you kidding. Waffles are great as well as the other items for choosing. | Hearing rumbles of a remodel and for sure do not do anything with the lounge area. The large fire place with appears to have UP stone on the face is beautiful and a great focal Point and place to sit, unwind and relax. | If they plan on doing a remodel, how about installing high rise toilets. It's like they are built for tiny people and for many that have knee replacement surgery, they are very hard to utilize. Just saying as I am sure many others feel the same way.||Overall a great property as compared to others I have been to. We will definitely stay here again when we utilize the great Upper Penninsula of Michigan.||Go...
Read moreThe room wasn’t the worst I’ve been in with exception to finding an aluminum peel-away tab to a bottled drink under the bed’s side and what look suspiciously like, and certainly didn’t want to touch it, the base ring to a condom near the corner of one of the beds. That was a first time for me in any place I’ve stayed.
Though what has left me with a newly formed avoidance of this location was the lady working in the office next to the check-out the next morning. She had soured what was a mostly enjoyable stay by insisting on being aggressively rude since the beginning of our interactions.
Aside from cutting me off when trying to check out, she waved their pet’s door tag in my face, to quote “see it’s a dog” when there was a misunderstanding about my pet that I wasn’t notified prior to check-in when I had him with me at that time. Then she argued with me after I told her about how they were incapable of spraying with a “well MY cats…” argument.
Her sheer amount of unprofessional and genuine unpleasant attitude right from the start not only shocked me due to how inappropriate she was with a customer, but completely ruined the “breath of fresh air after a bad night” I had received from the staff the night prior. Truly unbelievable how set she was to be as rude as possible and take the argumentative approach right away...
Read moreI stayed at the Calumet location back in July. I had booked 2 rooms under my name and credit card, listing my sister as the 2nd guest. Upon arrival I was told that only 1 room was shown but had another available. Ok fine. Had a great stay. Wished we could have stayed longer. Then we checked out. I paid full price for 1 room and split the cost of the other. But they took out another full payment. I was assured by the manager Diane that it would fall off once it cleared my bank. It did not. So I call back and I'm told I have to take it up with my bank (again by Diane). So I do. They refund my money. Great. Until they investigate and are told by Diane (the same manager) that I was a no call no show. No. I was in fact there along with the other person on my reservation. Mind you, we are now in September. After 3 different stories and far too much frustration, she finally agreed to give me a refund. BUT ONLY A PARTIAL. Even though she could clearly see that I honered my reservation, she cared more about that $35 than she did making things right with her guest. All because I didn't say out loud the other name that was clearly on the reservation. I will NEVER stay at her hotel again. And neither will my sister and her family. I hope that $35 was worth losing...
